Baby gate help

Hi all,

We need a baby gate to fit 600mm wide (narrow stairs) and all baby gates seem to be for large fittings eg 700+. How have other people overcome this? Are there slim versions anywhere that someone can recommend?

There are apparently slim ones, but can I find them? Can I heck. Our stairs are very narrow apparently. So watching this thread with interest.

We have narrow doors and have fitted them to the walls either side rather than inside the frame. Would that work?
Ikea had narrow gates but I'm not in the UK so don't know if they have them there.

The ikea ones here only reduce to 65cm, which isn't narrow enough for my stairs.

Safetots do one that's 61cm+ that's the narrowest I've found. Otherwise your best bet may well be one if the retractable ones. They're a bit pricier but would definitely fit. :)

Thanks everyone! Ah yes, think 61 is still too big. Where can you find the retractable ones? It seemed a good idea buying a cosy country cottage but not very practical!

IKEA now do a concertina stairgate called Patrull, it's exactly the same as one by Babydan that you can get in John Lewis. You can slide some of the panels out to make the gate narrower (or add panels to make them wider as we did for top and bottom of wide stairs). The gate also folds right back out of the way when not in use which I think would be really useful in a tight space, rather than having a traditional metal gate swinging about. And they can go round corners (we've got one round our bullnose bottom stair). They're really good, I'd thoroughly recommend them for any awkward spaces.

Tip pitons extra narrow? Search for narrow stair gate on ebay and sort by price, ending soonest or distance to find suitable preloved bargain ones. I had a quick look and while I don't know your area there are loads on there
