I was whinging a while back that I hadn't heard from the midwife or anything about a scan, even after I'd seen my dr, had dr pg test and left 2 messages with the midwife ansaphone, and seen the dr again for sciatica and told her hadn't heard anything back, she said she would email/talk to the midwife. So seeing as I am 11 weeks and supposed to have scan at 12 weeks thought I would ring again, left a message, fortunately someone rang back straight away and said they didn't know anything about a scan, apparently am supposed to have had a referral letter from my dr so they can book my scan but they haven't. (Although if they had responded to my previous messages we could have established that sooner!).
So basically they are going to try and fit me in for a scan but probably won't be next week, maybe the week after - who knows? Also, what if I can't make it, can I move it? I know work have to give me the time off but sometimes there are things that you just can't get out of, plus DH will have to book time of work and he works 45mins away. Grrr just a bit cross at lack of communication and being left in the dark and worried what this means for the rest of my antenatal care....

nuchal scan has to be done between 11 and 13 weeks

edie123 · 29/11/2006 18:29

That's rubbish bumper. I would write a letter of complaint if I were you...

Cadmum · 29/11/2006 18:32

You have my heartfelt sympathy. I was in a similar situation once having had 2 prior 2nd trimester miscarriages. It is not reassuring to know that it still continues to happen.

I hope that it is resolved ASAP and that the rest of your pregnancy goes without a hitch.

Gingerbear · 29/11/2006 18:32

nuchal scan can be done up to 13 weeks and 6 days.
A routine dating scan can be done anytime, some areas do them at 16 weeks.

Gingerbear · 29/11/2006 18:33

Agree that you appear to have been forgotten about, and treated very badly.
Complain.

I'm not having a nuchal scan (can't afford one) but I am supposed to have a dating one at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks according to my bumpf. I guess it's just one small oversight if the doctor did forget the letter, but i was mostly cross that the MW didn't return any of my messages. The first trimester you have loads of things going on, you don't know what's normal and they just kinda leave you to get on with it - come back in a few months. Lord knows what I would have done without MN!

well... my (locum) doctor didn't tell my midwife I was pg or book me in for dating scan (rang and booked myself in eventually), then the midwife (and student midwife now renamed the dynamic duo - not) I was to see for my booking in didn't know I was booking in, didn't have any forms and when did eventually find some got nearly every detail wrong on my notes - then didn't book me in for my 20 week scan (also did myself)... monumentally crap so far - luckily none of these folk are involved in the actual birth! My great doctor has retired and been replaced by a Wiggle lookalike who I can honestly say knows absolutely nothing about pregnancy or birth!

The dynamic duo knew they were crap and their embarrassment at their own inefficiency would either make you laugh or cry - and there is another doctor I can see at my surgery so the Wiggle guy is being ditched! So - should I confirm their crapness by complaining or should I be content with the fact that they know, I know how crap they are!??!!!!

Twohootsunderthemistletoe · 30/11/2006 14:33

Had a similar thing when I was pregnant - seems quite common tbh which is

Re scans and dates - apparently quite a few places are moving towards 14 wk scans rather than 12 wks anyway - something to do with being able to see more on the scan at that time??

If you are not having a nuchal scan (and I don't think many places offer these now) then it should be OK but still not good how you've been treat

CornflakeKid, what's a wiggle?

Whoo whoo! I now have a scan date for next friday! However they got my name wrong which is a bit of a worry. Without giving away my name imagine if you were called something like Mrs Williams and they sent the letter to Ms Walton...it was that different despite me spelling it out! Well, I don't care who this 'Ms Walton' I'm having her scan appointment!
