Did you feel very different in your pregnancies with different genders?

This pregnancy feels completely different to my last one which gave me my DD. That time I had lots of sickness from 7 to 19 weeks. I felt fine for most of the day but would vomit quite frequently and randomly (2-10 times a day). I had the odd dizzy spell and queasiness in the evening but not too bad otherwise.

This time around I just feel like I've been hit by a truck! I'm shattered and constantly queasy but no vomiting at all. It's 100 times worse than last time around and it started before I had even tested.

Is it because I'm older as I'm 38 now? Or is it because I'm expecting a boy this time around? I'm only 7+5 so we don't know gender yet.

Sure. I felt awful with DS and even worse with DD. LOL. Actually I was the opposite of you. Loads of vomiting till 22 weeks with DS, but no vomiting just major headaches and no appetite with DD

Mulligrubs · 17/09/2015 12:49

My pregnancies have been similar. With DS I felt constantly nauseous unless stuffing my face until 16 weeks, my boobs ached the whole time, I had period like pains til gone 16 weeks again. My pregnancy with DD at the moment is exactly the same! Only difference is with DS I had the linea nigra and this time I don't have one. Everything else has been the same for me.

Soooo different. First time I was knackered, sicky but not much. Had a son. This time I was in bed for 5 weeks with hg. Not as tired which is odd as I have a 3 year old. Pretty sure from the scan this one is a girl.
I'm 38 this time round too.

PitBlackwell · 17/09/2015 13:03

3 very different pregnancies for me. I have 3 girls.

BettyBi0 · 17/09/2015 13:09

It's weird isn't it? You'd think your body would know what it's doing and be a bit predictable haha!

First 2 pregnancies quite easy and straightforward, both girls.

3rd pregnancy very different, much more difficult. Everyone agreeing it must be a boy this time (this was before routine scans) - out popped DD3.

BettyBi0 · 17/09/2015 13:16

I'm quite reassured by some of these posts as I think I might be secretly hoping for another girl. Oh god I'm not allowed to actually say that out loud!

I had two boys and both pregnancies were completely different.

Mmmbacon · 17/09/2015 13:34

Boy and a girl, had horrible travel sickness with both only difference was first had a 15min commute, 2nd had a 1hr plus commute, had orange cravings on first. Icecream on second, worked to 40 weeks on first, went off sick at 34ish weeks on second as my hips had enough and decided they weren't going to drive me to work anymore!!! had first on my due date, Was told on second I wouldn't have baby for weeks as I was carrying very high and went into labour less than 12 hours later and 2 weeks early. You never know it's all just speculation,

Needmorechocolate · 17/09/2015 13:39

I had completely different pregnancies and I have 4 boys.

I found it harder and had more symptoms with each one, I think it's to do with getting older but also having the other children to look after so you can't rest as much as you do first time.

PitBlackwell · 17/09/2015 13:40

I was convinced each time it was a boy this time, because it was so different. But no, 3 girls. Hope it all goes well for you and you feel better soon. My last pregnancy was at 37 and the first trimester I felt so absolutely wiped out. I used to sleep on the living room floor at the drop of a hat.

newbian · 18/09/2015 12:00

The problem with trying to figure out if the gender is different based on symptoms is that you are invariably older in every subsequent pregnancy. I would also imagine that the differences between children and their effect on your body wouldn't be limited to gender. Like if one baby had a faster metabolism than the other, or one is larger than the other, for example. I personally don't get why gender would make symptoms differ at all but maybe there is some reason people think so?

zannyminxoxox · 19/09/2015 19:14

I had sickness and heartburn wirh my dd nearly all the way through. My ds nothing just sore boobs odd days of feeling sick and slight heartburm at the end. Pregnant with my 3rd and sickness and heartburn im 12 weeks, thinking its a girl but will have to wait and see ??

fizzysweetie · 19/09/2015 19:23

I've got a girl and am currently pregnant with a boy. The pregnancies haven't been radically different to be honest. I feel more tired this time, but that's probably to be expected with a 3 yo in tow. I've been sicker this time, but not horrendously so.

RugbyWidow7 · 20/09/2015 18:49

Can I ask what hg is pls?
I'm 7 weeks into third pregnancy. Absolutely exhausted but no surprise as I was with the other pregnancies and now I have a 4 yr old and 1 yr old to run around after. Those two pregnancies were different though, with more nausea second time - both were boys.

BettyBi0 · 20/09/2015 19:22

Hg is hyperemesis gravidarum - or vomming all the time.... Waaaay more than the odd puke, usually requires admission to hospital for IV fluids.

Girl babies often make mums to be more sick due to extra hormones. Was certainly the case for me anyway. Not sure what this one is but I'm suspecting another girl as I'm still ill at 16 weeks. Will find out tomorrow.

BakingBunty · 22/09/2015 16:19

Please don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure I read that pregnancy hormones are around 20% higher for girl babies than boy?
With DS, I felt rough but not much sickness. Craved anything tangy and spicy, ate my own body weight in mango and chilli sauce (not together).
With DD, I just wanted to puke all day long. Threw up on my trousers in a meeting (low point). Craved sweet things and couldn't get enough custard Grin.

BeautifulLiar · 22/09/2015 16:24

Yeh I was very similar to Bunty
