33 weeks and baby upside down... caesarian birth?

my friend is 33 weeks pregnant and the baby is upside down. the midwife has said she may have to have a caesarian as it probably won't turn now. has any one else had this? any tips on how to get it to turn? Thanks

thanks! She is panicking and i didn't think it seemed too late, she is still fairly neat (tummy muscles still intact) but wanted to give her some suggestions/examples rather than just say "oh stop worrying"...

no! i think they can turn right up to 36 weeks.
ds2 turned at 36.

dd1 turned at 38 weeks. I had gone in for a section, having been scanned the previous afternoon and she was still breech. I asked them to just double-check before they took me into theatre - and she had turned during the night! They couldn't believe I hadn't felt it!

At that point (1st baby) I had a very neat bump too.

(I was also told she was a huge baby in very little fluid, when in fact she was 6lb 12oz and in so much fluid that they had to get a mop and bucket out when my waters went...! They do get it wrong!)

They turn - tel her to spend as much time on her hands and knees waving her arse in the air. I tried it but must say it didn't work.

If the baby dosen't time make sure that she sees the consultant by about 36 weeks, I didn't get an appointment until nearly 38 by which time it was too late to try ECV.

Even if the baby is breech it need not be a CS. MY midwifes and consultant were very supportive of my decision to go for a natural labour. However there were 'rules' (i.e. 1 cm per hour, no induction...). I did go into spontaneous labour but failed to prgress and ended up with the CS anyway! I got very worked up about it at the time, tell your friend that a CS really isn't the end of the world and next time and really won't care which it comes out!

Hmmm - it's very difficut to see how holding a candle can possibly turn a baby (apart from the leaning over to do so help to keep it out of hte pelvis and hence space to move).

am sure they dont tend to worry about this until 36wks plus. Friends baby turned the day she was going in for a c section they just did a last min scan to check and he had moved.

What about leaning an ironing board up the front of the couch so that there is a steady sloped surface then with lying on it, head at the bottom? That's supposed to work.

my 3rd baby turned at 39 weeks, sounds same as nemoinapeartrees friend. I looked an idiot - cried with disappointment when told it was a CS, then 3 days later went in for section and cried with disappointment again when told baby had moved and CS not happening. "But I thought I was going to see her today.."
Didn't feel any movement BTW, and she was 8lb2oz. No sense, no feeling.
