Excessively thirsty in late pregnancy

Has anybody else been very very thirsty in late pregnancy?
I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and over the past two weeks my thirst levels have significantly increased. Last night I drank a pint of water before bed, took a pint up to bed which I drank and then I had to come downstairs in the middle of the night to get another pint of water which I drank all of. I got up early because I was still thirsty and I drank another pint and a half.

Obviously this is causing havoc with my bladder and I have been up and down to the toilet several times during the night but my mouth is so dry that I just can't help guzzling water.

I had a glucose tolerance test at 26 weeks and it didn't show any signs of diabetes. Is it possible to develop gestational diabetes later in pregnancy or is this level of thirst normal in the final month of pregnancy? I am due to see the midwife at the end of the week but I don't want to leave it until then if it could be diabetes or something else of concern.

I have gestational diabetes and that's how I be speak to your midwife or Dr it is possible that u didn't have it then but do now

It s possible, I think. I would mention it to your midwife asap.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking but I didn't want to be phoning the midwives and them thinking that I am just being totally paranoid. I might try and ring the assessment unit rather than wait until I see the midwife at the end of the week.

I must add: my previous baby was 10lb, hence why I had a glucose test at 26 weeks this time.

I don't mean to scare you but I have GD too and this was one of my only symptoms...one day I drank seven bottles of water in a morning! My gtt was done at 28 weeks so you could possibly have developed it later? Speak to your midwife tomorrow and see if they can get you retested ASAP and maybe stay away from white carbs and excessive sugar in the meantime.

Thanks frangipani , you haven't scared me at all, more reassured me that I wouldn't be totally silly to phone the midwives.
