What shall I expect? The receptionist I made the appointment with said it's an hour long appointment so I'm guessing quite a bit happens!

Booking in?

Mostly just a million questions about your medical history and your partners.

Possibly bloods if you are in a clinic and the mw does them (might be separate )

Might weigh you, might not.

Lots and lots of paperwork about you, and your partners medical history.

Weighed
Height measured
Bloods taken
blood pressure taken
Urine sample required
Listen to the babies heartbeat
Give you lots and lots of pamphlets
Answer any questions you have....
May ask you where you want to have the baby

If it's your first appointment (i.e your booking in) don't expect to do much other than answer questions about you and your partner, and your family medical histories. Pee in a pot, maybe a blood test, and that tends to be it.

I doubt they'd listen for baby's heartbeat just yet as booking in is usually done at about 10 weeks, and they don't start listening for heartbeat until 16 weeks.

Yup as above plus mine included a group chat going through the the maternity notes booklet which annoyed me as I'd taken the time to read it all before the appointment.

They do a urine sample, check for carbon monoxide in the breath.

A LOT of questions! Basically going through that booklet you fill out before. Mine asked about DV, twice, just to be sure lol! Must be the area??

I had bloods and then went round to ultrasound to book 12 week scan.

incredibly boring questions about family medical history

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 11/09/2015 22:19

Oh yes, urine sample and monoxide test

feerouge · 12/09/2015 18:39

Hello! Do you guys know if you need to avoid eating before the appointment as they take a blood sample?

DoctorDonnaNoble · 12/09/2015 18:45

No, as it's not a fasting sugar test. That may come later.

RevsDeCub · 12/09/2015 18:47

Also, they might ask you about domestic abuse. I took my partner with me to help with family history, etc & she took me out of the room to ask me! Just so you're not shocked if she does!

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2015 18:48

Nothing really happens other than a lot of form filling in! Make sure you know your DP/DH's family medical history as they'll ask.

They wont listen to the hb, it's far too early for that. It's just lots of questions about you and your partner's medical history, bloods, BP, weight and they dip your wee to check for infection and glucose.
