Hi -

Tbf i cant remember anything anyway at the moment gah i have a question for you lovelies.

I am 36+4 and yesterday I had my final scan (by my consultant) who said that baby's head was down but not yet engaged - all good. Baby is happy and healthy. Even better.

Then it got me to thinking afterwards (as I cant remember with DD (6) and I never seem to ask these questions of the Drs when they're there in front of me !!!!!!

When and if he does engage how long could he be engaged for?? Does this make sense - could a baby potentially be engaged for 5 weeks etc (so from 37 to 42???)
I have a feeling I will go overdue (I know, I know) so can this happen?? Or does a baby becoming engaged mean that labour is fairly imminent??

My baby has been engaged since 31 weeks. I'm now 38+1 and he is showing no signs of making an appearance!

Hi. A baby can become engaged any time before labour, weeks and weeks or minutes prior. What you can't do (rare exceptions of course) is labour without an engaged part in The pelvis, so it sort of needs to be ticked off the list but doesn't necessarily mean things are imminent.

Also if it's not your first baby, the head/pp can bob in and out of the pelvis and may not deeply engage until contractions start (although the pp will be engaged somewhat prior to that)

My Little one has been engaged since about 35 weeks, I'm now 39+4, so definitely doesn't mean labour is imminent! At the other extreme, some babies don't engage until labour has started.

Thanks and wow!!!
So other than going to the midwives is there anyway to know myself if he is engaged (will I feel him)also is that when the "drop" happens. My bump is still fairly high... I thought that I wrote everything down with DD but apparently no I didn't lol

DS was engaged from 38 weeks. He was born at 41+6 by EMCS after an induction. Grin

The one thing I noticed when he started to engage was that I was getting an awful lot of pressure in my lady bits Grin
