Hating the lying!

Evening! I'm only 6+3 so ages until we'll be telling anyone (apart from maybe 1 or 2 close friends) and I can't believe how much of a struggle it is already!

Don't judge me, but it's no secret amongst my social & work circle that I like a glass of wine or 3 on occasion. I've got no idea how I'm going to lie my way through the next 6+ weeks!

I'm going to a boozy work related event tomorrow afternoon, a boozy BBQ at the weekend, and in the next few weeks a 30th dinner party, my own birthday and 3 days with my DM & Nan (who both also like a glass of wine).

It seems my statement of 'I'm driving' or simply 'I'm not drinking tonight' cannot be taken as an answer, without me being probed as to why, and frequent attempts at persuasion to change my mind.

Any tips?!

You could try the hangover excuse. Or "I got absolutely wasted the other day and threw up/ passed out/ fell over so I'm laying off alcohol for a few weeks while my liver recovers". It would help if you have a very boozy dp or close friend you can tell them you were out with. I wouldn't believe the antibiotic story, I've heard it used too many times. I would just quietly assume they were pg but not ask, but some people will ask outright.

Congratulations! You could just tell them, if you like.

If you do really want to hide it agree with PPs that best way is to pretend to drink (and hide the car if you want to drive), eg "vodka and tonic". Observant people will notice but if they are polite won't say anything.

Antibiotics is a see-through excuse!

Fake drinking here! I ordered gin and tonics, then managed to swap them over with the lemonade my over half had on the dinner table when no one was watching! Did mean he got quite tipsy lol

I was on a hen weekend where one of my close friends was pregnant. She told me just in case I needed to help her hide it, but nobody noticed she wasn't drinking! People don't really seem to notice if others are drinking or not - just have a drink in your hand and tip a bit away occasionally!

Thank You lovelies. I popped in to see my best friend on the way home from work (one of the maniacs) and decided that instead of a series of increasingly ridiculous excuses over the next few weeks, I'd just tell her & her Husband.

I feel SO much better!

I will pretend drink/pretend hangover with family & colleagues, but it's such a relief to be able to relax around the people I see most often & not have to lie to them. phew Smile
