I was hospitalised with HG in my 1st pregnancy with DD, she is now a year old and DH & I are thinking that we would like to try for another LO next year.

I have looked on numerous websites and have only found negative information on HG and how sufferers have a 75% chance of it returning with vengance during any subsequent pregnancies.

This is making me feel sceptical about trying again as I don't want DD to suffer any kind of anxiety about my health.

There must be people with positive stories to tell of how the coped with HG & LO, please let me know your experiences and tips I would LOVE to hear them!

it was worse second time around ( if that was possible) but tbh you just get on with it as you have to if you have a toddler running around. i waited 5 yrs to have second LO as was so ill first time, but looking back it was all worthit. Acupuncture helped abit , and i just kept counting the days and trying to think it is only 9 months in a whole lifetime!!! my DD didn't seem bothered about me being sick she used to tell people all about the baby in mummy's tummy makes her sick usuall yin hte queue at the supermarket as i had to dash off to the loo again...good luck

Maybe a little bit of hope for you . I Had HG with dd1 (hospital), with dd2 had 'normal' sickness, and could still go into work, then dd3 HG again ]. A chance that while you will no doubt suffer sickness again, it ight vary in its intensity .

MerryPiffmas · 11/12/2006 14:23

I had HG with dd, not had it this time around.
So not a given you'll get it
Just a glimmer of hope
I was all ready for it though

Hi. I had HG with my first pregnancy and was also hopitalised (twice). Second time, it was worse - I thought I could manage it and went straight to the doctors to get the same medication, but ended up in A&E completely dehydrated. Unfortunately I then miscarried that baby (don't worry - nothing to do with HG, in fact I've been told that you are less likely to miscarry with HG). But here's the good news.. third pregnancy, had some mild morning sickness at the very start (felt ill, but was only sick a couple of times) but then absolutely nothing at all after 14 weeks. It was so different!! So there is hope you will not get it again. If you do plan another and get pregnant, I would suggest you try and get in extra help for the first few weeks. I found I definitely felt worse when I was tired, so my husband had a few days off and my mum came to stay to help out with our little one, plus I booked her into extra days at nursery. I also found that drinking iced water helped me, but they may not be the same for everyone. I did try homopathy, but it did not work for me. I hope this helps. There is a great website called 'bloomful awful' which was also useful. If you have any other Qs, feel free to ask as I know when I had it, I felt like the only one.

We have decided to start trying asap, have af at the mo but going to be no holding back after that's out of the way. DD is 16 months and always on the go so I know it will be really difficult if I do have HG again as I struggled before when I had no one to look after. I'm fully prepared to have HG and to have to go to hospital if necessary but I know there's also the possibility that I won't have it. I'm sorry about your miscarriage Poppetmum but congratualtions on your third pg. Have been on the Blooming Awful website before and have it in my favourites but thanks for telling me about it. Fingers crossed I will get a bfp soon and won't have Hg again.

Should have added that third pregnancy is now a beautiful baby! HG is horrendous, but it will be worth it

Hels24 · 20/12/2006 12:54

Def worth it in the end and by about 6 months I was blooming and just loved being pregnant anyway. Thanks for your advice.
