Screening - very worried

I'm 40 and this is our third baby. We had our screening results and they came back with a high risk of 1 in 75. Our NT was 2.4, HCG was 1.99 and PAPP A was 1.62. We are so lucky that our local hospital is trialing the Harmony tests so we had this for free - and now have to wait 2 weeks for the results. I know I should sit tight and just wait for the results as only the results can give me the answer - but i can't stop googling and thinking about it.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I had a screening result of 1:85, had the Harmony done and all came back as low risk! Also, my results only took 8 days to come back, so you might not have to wait as long as you think.

Try and stay positive, it sounds bad the way they present it to you but actually 1:75 is still pretty good odds. Good luck!

How long did your NT/initial blood results take to come back, I had mine done 8 days ago and nothing yet, going mad with worry!

I was called 3 working days after the initial tests but only because I came back as high risk - if you are low risk they tend not to call, they send you a letter which with my previous pregnancies took 2 weeks. I would take it as a positive that you've not heard anything yet :-)

Thanks metalhead. fingers crossed - you're right, the odds are in my favour...i keep telling myself AND still my brain keeps thinking of the worst case scenario. Wish my brain had an off switch ;-)

Thank you, that does sound reassuring. As metalhead said, the odds are overwhelmingly in your favour. Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

I came back as 1:85 and we've decided (after that awful stage of feeling it's every minute of the day) to not take any further tests. Now I've decided that it's honestly gone. The anxiety weirdly has passed.
I'd advise keeping from google if you can. Distraction. It's hard to find one, I hope you can. Flowers

I know it sounds scary to be told you are high risk, but I think the ratios make it sound worse than it is. If you convert it to percentages 1:75 is the same as 1.3% ...Which means you have a 1.3% chance of having a baby with downs... And I 98.7% chance of having a baby without downs.

The odds are massively in your favour! Good luck and try to relax (I know it's impossible) :)
