Hi all, I'm 37+5 today and both anxious to meet my baby and not ready at the same time!

I was wondering if anyone else is on mat leave and wanted to join me in a thread of things we want to get done before baby arrives/to keep us occupied!

So far I have:

  • slept loads :D
  • called British gas and arranged them to come tomorrow to sort broken meter
  • been to IKEA
  • started batch cooking
  • tidied house (although lots needs redoing)

I want/need to:

  • get my hair done (booked in for Friday)
  • going for a last posh meal
  • call Talk Talk to sort out my internet/phone deal
  • read my birth skills book and do some more hypnobirthing practice
  • finish tidying house, putting washing away etc
  • go to the cinema
  • have a look around TK Maxx for some last baby bits

How far along are you and what have you got on your mat leave to do list? Or is there anything I should add to mine?

I am 4 weeks post

Some other ideas

  • get some clothes for post pregnancy
  • batch cook for lunches too!
  • get on line shopping set up - book repeating slots same time every week, I ado do a reserved service
  • sleep!
  • get a pedicure - one that gets rid of all the dead skin and leaves them ultra soft and smooth and sorted

  • sort somewhere to put all the gifts which are too big and somewhere to put all the outgrown clothes too (partic if you are planning another one - sort as baby grows out of stuff will save you a world of pain in 2 years time!!!)

Oh yes Free I forgot I definitely need a pedi, toenails are so chipped right now!

I have been wondering about post pregnancy clothes, I packed away most of my clothes and have no idea what I will wear after baby comes, I've also put on some weight on my thighs and bum so think I will have to live in leggings and trackies for a while

Leggings/harems/under the bump mat jeans

M&s jeggings in a size or two for interim period. They are nice and high waisted.

Lots of layers/vests and loose-ish tops/jumpers and cardis if you are planning on breastfeeding.

I am not technically on mat leave because I am a SAHM, but I am due in 5 weeks and the kids went back to school last week so I feel like I have started mat leave.
I need to pack my hospital bag but I still have stuff to buy first to go in the bag.
I need to:
Finish decorating the nursery
Clean the nursery windows
Sort out stuff to wear after delivery
Not sure what else....
It's been a decade since I last had a baby and it all feels new and unknown Confused

C-section booked for 3 weeks away, I have so much to do! It's DC3 so I think I've got sloppy and now I can barely move and I've got loads to do......my list: get a haircut, get the kids haircuts, phone the carpet guy who's supposed to be doing our living room, do infinite loft trips as the upstairs is full of bags of outgrown clothes, get the rest of the baby stuff down from the loft and wash/sort etc, and clean the fridge, oven and pantry out. Today my 3 yo went to nursery for the first time, so I used the day wisely sleeping, eating crumpets, and did nothing off the list. Also need to pack my hospital bag and buy all the stuff to go in it. I can't believe how unprepared I am!!

Hi irie I am 37+6 as of today so looks like i am due the day before you :)

I haven't been on mat leave long but have so far:

  • sorted all of baby's clothes out and put in his chest of drawers in correct order.
  • finally bought Moses basket
  • packed hospital bag
  • been for lunch with friends
-deep cleaned entire flat

To do:

  • buy new curtains for living room
  • work out how car seat fits into car BEFORE we go to hospital Grin
  • buy some black pj bottoms for hospital in case I have to stay over.

Also I have been told I may not be able to have water birth due to high blood pressure so not really sure what to give birth in!? Would a nighty be sufficient or big t shirt?

irie · 08/09/2015 18:45

laura I'm due 24th sept! Car seat is a very good point, must have a go at that this weekend!

I've got a couple of dark nighties packed and some dark pj bottoms/lounge pants for after, along with about 10 pairs of size 18-20 full briefs! (Usually a 12!)

As I have to wait in for the Gas man tomorrow I think I will put all the washing away and do some ironing, arrange my clothes so I have something to wear post baby, and I have lots of mince out for some slow cooker/batch cookingGrin

irie yep 23rd sep here! Wonder which baby will make an appearance first! Grin

So I'm definitely thinking dark nighties + dark pjs are a good move. I also bought some big black underwear last night, very attractive items I must say!

frangipani13 · 08/09/2015 19:07

I'm going to wear a bikini top in the pool if I'm allowed to use it. A wet y shirt might make you feel cold/uncomfortable. ..

NewBallsPlease00 · 08/09/2015 19:07

Oh Lordy I need to get carpet, painted walls and clear spare room to do the same in there Shock
Then pack hospital bag get pedicure
Have already done a bit of batch cooking and filled freezer
Lots of coffee and cake with friends which is lovely!
Need to do big tidy and sort my clothes
4 weeks to go

Iamnotloobrushphobic · 08/09/2015 21:47

irie · 08/09/2015 22:07

37 weeks exactly here.

Anyone else find they just want to sleep lots? yesterday i was supposed to clean out the kitchen cupboards, and do a deep clean of the kitchen. i managed 3 cupboards and the window before i gave up (there are only 6 cupboards in the whole kitchen)

My sister is getting married next week so been running round sorting stuff out for that.

Still need to :

get hair cut - booked in for tomorrow
arrange to get some blinds fitted in living room - man coming tomorrow
buy meat, and pack up into portions for freezer. Master plan is to use slow cooker.
find flip flops for the hospital bag
make sure everything is charged up and ready to go
finish cleaning kitchen
buy and wrap wedding gift
book in for manicure and pedicure before the wedding
move bedside table and bed to make room for the Moses basket

I also wanted to have a nice wonder round the shops, as it'll be the last time I'll be able to do so without struggling to get a pram through the aisles. I am in one of those moods though if i don't go I'll get cranky with myself for not going, but if i do go I'll get cranky cause it'll be busy and I'll get tired and feel it was a waste of time considering i have so much else to do.

irie · 09/09/2015 09:22

spud I had the same situation about going to the shops yesterday but decided to stay in since I was so knackered I would've been no use wondering around like a zombie.

Lying in bed waiting for bath to run, have had backache since yesterday and it's not eased off overnight so hope this will sort it, want to get loads done in the house today!

Hope you're all good and have a productive day, whether it's sleeping or doing lots!

Yesterday bedroom tidied and cleaned top to bottom, washing out away and date night with DP

Today have batch cooked 8 portions of lasagne and spag Bol, planning on going to the shops for a wander (need large Muslins and cellular blanket is the excuse), then got antenatal class and a meal with the girls

Tomorrow hair cut and colour Grin after that baby pretty much welcome to make an appearance any time
