ok, am 6 weeks pg

on saturday i had a private scan - all good - saw a foetus and heartbeat

had an nhs scan in the diary for today - had orig planned to cancel it as i'd had the private one

but had a small bleed on sunday so decided to keep today's scan for reassurance

well after waiting for bloody ages i was finlly scanned and the sonographer said "sorry i can't see a foetus - there's a yolk sac but nothing inside it"

wtf?? is it possible for the foetus to have disappeared???

am hoping to get back to harley street tonight to see them again

really freaked out

oh tutter! im so so happy it is all ok!
i couldnt get on to hound you as soon as you got back but i kept saying to dh-
i hope tutter's baby is ok. x

Tutter · 29/11/2006 11:22

thanks

have had a little more brownky-pink staining this morning

not too worried

it's the same as i had on sunday - so both times it was the day after an intenal scan. do you think it could be linked to the (ahem) fanny/dildocam? (with thanks to aith/mrsjc)

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 29/11/2006 11:24

lo at dildocam! ace,
yes, i got dildo'd once and i got that too!

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 29/11/2006 11:24

you should have seen dh's face when they whipped it out! lmao

spudballoo · 29/11/2006 11:31

I thought you were looking very glam actually and was feeling very shabby by comparison! Yes, I was the one with the dark hair on my own having a boring conversation with the midwife about having walked up the stairs (yawn). How bizarre that we 'met'.

Yes, pinky discharge common post fannycam. I had it a couple of times.

I'm going private with Dr Gibb after horrid, went badly wrong first birth. Luckily it's mostly covered by BUPA as I need a section for medical reasons due to first birth horridness.

I used to live in Teddington and was very upset to move away from Kingston, but having heard what happened to you I'm not so sure now!

spud

i was feeling a bit guilty when i heard you'd gone up the stairs - i'm only 6 weeks and i used the lift whereas you looked, er, significantly more pg!

and what an extra-coincidence that you used to live in teddington! i'm in kew

sorry to hear you had a bad birth first time around - i'm sure dr gibb will take good care of you. where will you deliver?

OP posts:
Tutter · 29/11/2006 11:56

and thanks for the reassurance re post fannycam spotting

arfishymeau · 29/11/2006 11:56

Tutter - I had a very nasty experience in Kingston. So much so that when I moved there 3 weeks before DD was due I still insisted on giving birth in Guildford.

I didn't regret one second of labour in a traffic jam on the A3 heading down to Guildford from Kingston. No sireee.

DP thought I was insane.

I'm so glad you had a good outcome from your scan. How awful that these sonographers are so indifferent.

Where are you doing the rest of your ante-natal care?

LieselVonTrapp · 29/11/2006 11:58

Tutter - sorry I missed this yesterday but glad everthing went well. However Im slightly concerned now so Im away t check something out.

Tutter · 29/11/2006 11:59

arfishymeau - that's alarming

have to say that ds's birth and my postnatal care was fine

but they screwed up ectopic pg surgery, and, as i've said, i've never been impressed with their epu facilities/staff

you know what? i actually have no idea where i'm going to go after the move . our nearest hospital will be the royal berkshire in reading, but the john radcliffe in oxford may be an option. have to do lots of research

OP posts:
Tutter · 29/11/2006 12:00

what's wrong lvt?

OP posts:
Tutter · 29/11/2006 12:04

btw, have learnt since my op that the fetal pole doesn't actually grow inside the yolk sac, but next to it

so the sonographer yesterday wouldn't have said "there's a yolk sac but nothing inside it" but probably "there's a yolk sac but nothing else"

just in case anyone was at that quote!

OP posts:
arfishymeau · 29/11/2006 12:21

At least you've got the benefit of experience behind you when you look at the history of other hospitals, wherever you move.

Good luck with the rest of your pg. After this scare I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

AitchTwoOh · 29/11/2006 12:53

definitely had spotting after fannycam usage, tutter. and sex. roughs up the cervix, dontchaknow.

lemonaid · 29/11/2006 13:07

Just in the interests of balance, I had a very positive time all round at Kingston with my pregnancy with DS (including early scan in the EPU).

Tutter · 29/11/2006 13:36

oh i'm positive not all visitors to the epu or to the maternity unit have had a crappy time like mine lemonaid , but thanks for balancing anyway

i'm sure they were all just having an off day yesterday yes, all of em

OP posts:
LieselVonTrapp · 29/11/2006 13:41

Cause - how come you get a scan and youre also 6 weeks? (((Stamps feet)))
How do you get a 6 week scan. S'not fair I want one (((throws dummy out pram)))

Tutter · 29/11/2006 13:43

you know if you were to have a small bleed, they would scan you, y'know. ring up your local epu and ask if you need a gp referral

of course, that would be a shocking misuse of nhs resources, so i couldn't recommend it to you , but if you're worried for any reason...?

or - pay £100 and have one done privately

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 29/11/2006 13:53

but generally speaking LVT, you get a 6 week scan if you have had something super-grim and potentially life-threatening happen in a previous pregnancy...

spudballoo · 29/11/2006 13:55

I am paying for marching up Harley St at speed and zooming up the stairs today. i have a hernia (complication of my colostomy which in turn is a complication of my first shabby birth) which is SCREAMING today. That'll learn me. Luckily child one is at nursery this afternoon.

Dr Gibb only delivers at the Portland [Spud opens can of worms and hands round worm catching nets]. Ummed and arrhed for ages due to all the usual Portland 'stuff', but decided planned, early, section gives best chance of not being killed by the Portland. Ha ha ha.

I'm 29 weeks. Lord. HOw'd that happen. child one 14 months. Got duffed whilst breastfeeding, no periods, blah blah blah. I am NEVER drinking Pimms again. never.

lemonaid · 29/11/2006 14:11

LVT -- in my case, miscarriage in previous pregnancy followed by bleeding in the one they were doing an early scan in.

There is, apparently, a huge shortage of NHS sonographers in London as a whole (so said the sonographer doing my private 3D scan last time, who was moonlighting from her main job at Chelsea and Westminster to boost her income). They are migrating out to the provinces in droves -- which doesn't, of course, excuse those who are left having the manners and bedside manner of a particularly unfeeling steamroller, but does back up the general feeling that you'll get better treatment outside or going privately.

[Vaguely thinking for next time] Can you just refer yourself for private scans, then -- just phone and book one? In spite of general positiveness of Kingston last time I'm thinking of a more pick-and-mix approach to the whole thing next time...

Actually, come to think of it, all my scans apart from the EPU one were at Queen Mary's Roehampton too. So I guess I really had a positive experience with QMR.
