ok, am 6 weeks pg

on saturday i had a private scan - all good - saw a foetus and heartbeat

had an nhs scan in the diary for today - had orig planned to cancel it as i'd had the private one

but had a small bleed on sunday so decided to keep today's scan for reassurance

well after waiting for bloody ages i was finlly scanned and the sonographer said "sorry i can't see a foetus - there's a yolk sac but nothing inside it"

wtf?? is it possible for the foetus to have disappeared???

am hoping to get back to harley street tonight to see them again

really freaked out

Tutter, was the private scan done by one of those internal prob things that are covered with a condom and the NHS scan with one of those outside ones? That might explain it!

3andnomore · 28/11/2006 16:15

Crossing all for you....waiting will be soon over!

lulumama · 28/11/2006 16:18

tutter..nothing to add....fingers crossed...sorry you are having to have this extra stress...xxx

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 28/11/2006 16:22

I think that is awful.
'Sorry, love no baby here' kind of attitude. 'Now get out, next please'

At my 20 week with ds2 I asked the woman to print some pics of him for me and she actually went and sighed!

At least you will know at 5.

Also, how rude to say all that 'look at your ruler' malarky. It just illustrates how unimportant it all is to them. They seem to have nil regard for people's feelings.
They clearly were not impressed you had had a private scan.
I am sure it is all ok. As you say, where can the little blighter have possibly gone?!
Anyway, everything is crossed for you.
I'll give you 20/30mins or so to get back thru rush hour traffic, then I will be asking! lol

Ettenna · 28/11/2006 16:25

Tutter, just want to add my good wishes, fingers crossed for you.

sahmtotwo · 28/11/2006 16:53

Sorry to ear this has happened to you Tutter. It's horrible when it does. I have had this happen to me to had a scan at 6 weeks on the NHS and there it is heartbeat the lot and been back 4 days later because of a little bleed and it's gone. I lost it in the little bleed. Sorry to say it can happen but I hope this isn't the case w th you ((((hugs)))

To also clear up some points. Tutter did say that it was an internal scan on both occasions. Also she had to rush out before seeing someone about the implications of the second scan to get to her friend who was looking after her child.

katierocket · 28/11/2006 17:01

Good luck Tutter and at NHS idiot with as much sensitivity as a brickbat. I had a scan at 10 weeks on NHS and they were very similar in attitude.

Tutter · 28/11/2006 18:02

phew

all is well. it took, ooh, all of 5 seconds for him to find the heartbeat!

he was very lovely (delivered kate winslet's baby dontcha know) and i might go back for 12 week blood tests. he didn't charge me because he was embarrassed at how i'd been mucked about by the nhs

to be fair to the nhs, they apparently have written me a letter asking me to go back in 10 days for another scan but this was never mentioned at the time. as far as i was concerned it was all over. if i hadn't had the private scan beforehand i would have had no reason to remain hopeful. i could have gone out and got lathered tonight...

i promise i'll try to have an uneventful prgnancy from now on

thanks for all your good wishes x

Tutter, this is fantastic news! So so glad you had the option of a second scan and it's all worked out so happily.

Tutter, glad you got the the news you wanted

you said earlier,"had to literally run from the unit after the scan to get ds from a friend who had to leave, so i didn't see a midwife/doc" -couldn't that be the reason why you had no more info, and didn't know you were going to get another scan in 10 days? Sounds like both the sonographer and doc were a bit insensitive, but I don't think you've been messed about... I bet the Harley Street doc had the absolute latest machine with all the bells and whistles, and the NHS had to make do with the cheapest one available as well...

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/11/2006 18:24

Fabulous Tutter - very happy for you.

Frenchsmallfry · 28/11/2006 18:26

Yeyyyyyyyyy! that is sooooooooooooo fantastic. I have to say, I would have been worried for a moment too. I'm really pleased for you and Yes hope it is trouble free and easy going from here on in. xxx

Tutter · 28/11/2006 18:28

tissy - yes, i'm sure that if i'd been able to stay they would hve mentioned the repeat scan

but i did give them my number as i left and asked them to call em if there was anything i needed to know

and when i called back a couple of hours later they assured me theirs is an excellent scanner

i think what they did wrong imo was to say outright "there's nothing there" and not to call em straight away to ask me back for a repeat scan
