Pregnancy with Mirena

Evening all

I would like some advice please.

Four months ago I had a Mirena IUS implanted during an abortion procedure.

Since then I have had a lot of issues, loss of libido, weight gain, acne and constant bleeding (not heavy at all).

Two weeks ago I had very bad cramps on my lower left side and an increased bleeding (bright red) so made an appointment with GP.

She carried out an internal and said that she could see the strings but was still bleeding. She took swabs and said she wanted to send me for an urgent ultrasound (but didn't say why even though before examining she said that an ultrasound would only happen if swabs were negative for infection).

Since then the bleeding has pretty much stopped but I have been feeling extremely fatigued (like I did with pregnancy) and have lost weight. Cramps have diminished also.

My question is could there be a chance these are pregnancy symptoms and that's why she is sending me for an ultrasound?

Thanks all! X

I doubt you're pregnant - maybe they suspect your Mirena has moved and they want to check? I was sent for an ultrasound when my Mirena "migrated" and they needed to locate it.

I didn't get the impression she felt it had moved as she said it looked fine and strings were in place, another thought crossed my mind that possible slight perforation?

Have you had the results from the swabs?
I think the ultrasound may be to rule out any other causes of bleeding, check position of coil.
i think having all this going on is bound to make you feel ropey.
Hope it all gets sorted out.

Not yet, they will take ten days but she decided she wanted me to have a scan (which I am having Tuesday) to have everything at once.

I expected the pain/bleeding to get worse after the internal but amazingly I've improved lots and started feeling exhausted instead, very odd!

And thanks, hopefully it will sort itself out or I'll have it out!

They will want to check for correct placement, any movement /perforation etc. they'll also be able to check for pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy but mainly, they'll be looking to see if it's moved.

In case it has moved, use another method of contraception too!
