Hi all. Recently found out I was pregnant. Roughly when I was 4+6. I had an overnight stay in hospital due to chance of ectopic pregnancy, early 5 week scan showed all ok. I had another scan at 6 weeks to check vitality, sonographer said all okay baby fine, even saw a heartbeat!! :) it only measured 5mm.
The sonographer said it was okay so did the nurse I saw. However ive just read an article saying week 6 the baby would be 10-14mm? What is normal?! I'm a little worried. Also can anyone help with indigestion! I'm in agony and morning sickness well don't get me started its morning noon night and in the night at the moment !! :( help please!

At that point scan measurements are pretty inaccurate. At 7 weeks I was 9.1mm - which is considered expected, so 10 - 14mm for 6 weeks to me would be big. I'm now 19+4 and all is well, so sounds good to me.

I agree that the measurements are very approximate, don't believe everything you read either. It's a great sign that a heartbeat was detected at 6 weeks, it makes your chances of miscarriage drop significantly. Congratulations! I found the first 12 weeks so worrying after having an early miscarriage, it's not easy when you've had a scare, but it all sounds good so far.
In the early days I drank hot milk to help with the indigestion and later on I used Gaviscon (the peppermint stuff, the aniseed one was awful). I also avoided curries and Robinson's squash (weird I know but it seemed to make it worse).
For morning sickness I made sure I ate little and often as I got sick when I started to get hungry. I nibbled on bread sticks a lot as smells and hot stuff made me sick if I hadn't had anything for a while. I kept Gin Gins handy too as nibbling/sucking on them helped. I found brushing my teeth really difficult as it usually made me sick, so I lightly brushed while humming (don't knock it til you try it, I'm sure it worked) and used mouthwash for a bit longer than normal to make up for less time brushing). I also kept a toothbrush and paste in the car and at work for when I was sick there. My sickness went away at 13 weeks. It's awful at the time but telling my boss and a few select colleagues early made it a lot less stressful - I work in a shop and it meant they didn't mind if I had to go off the shop floor at any time. Good luck and congratulations! :D

Hi OP,
please don't worry, the measurements at my 6 week scan were 5.6mm and I'm now nearly 24 weeks pregnant!

Congrats Flowers

Hi Mary this article seems well written and reliable, and would suggest (page 6) that at 6w (42days) the expected size would be between 1.9-5.5mm so sounds like you're measuring well within the normal range.

I looked this up as I had a scan at ~8w, yet embryo was only measuring 6.8mm. However, am trying not to worry - as others have said measurments at that level must have a fair bit of error too, and sometimes our dates are not quite as accurate as we think they are!

good luck :)
