To scan, or not to scan?

Morning all. I'm six weeks today and need to go in for an early pregnancy scan either today or Monday, as I'll be under the consultant led care again this time around. Would it be too early to see the heartbeat today? Shall I wait until Monday and drive myself crazy with worry?

Does anyone have any experience of this? Last time I had a scan sometime during week six and the sonographer saw a clear heart beat then. I don't have many symptoms at all yet and am really starting to get anxious. If they don't see a heartbeat today I'll be a snivelling wreck until the next scan, and if I wait until Monday I'll a snivelling wreck until then. Argh!

Sensibly, of course wait until Monday.

Realistically of course, go today and if you don't see a heartbeat ask to be rescanned in ten days, or if they say no find a walk in EPU or book a private scan.

That's what I would do but I have no self control. Good luck x

I would go along today as I am impatient. If they don't see a heartbeat (doesn't happen quite often at six weeks) and refuse to rescan in 10 days time then book a private early scan for peace of mind. I had a private early scan and it only cost £40.

I would probably try and hold off till Monday as you are more likely to see something then. Imagine going today, not seeing anything (which would be perfectly normal) and then have to wait 10 whole days! So it might be wait 3 days or wait 10 days... or you could be lucky today! I've not really helped have I good luck either way! xx

Well in the end the decision was made for me. EPU closed at 11.30 so I'll need to wait until next week now. Glad I called before going in as their opening hours have changed.

You should be able to see the heartbeat on dildo cam. I did at 5+4. :)

Starting to really worry about the lack of symptoms. Well - I'm tired and get quite hungry if I leave it too long between meals but boobs are fine, no hideous voming and retching and I can stomach all foods. No aversions to any smells and no nose bleeds. All the things I had while pregnant with DD and all the symptoms I lacked when I had a delayed miscarriage.

Apart from tiredness, I had absolutely no symptoms either at that stage. Symptoms aren't always an indicator, even if you've had them previously. Good luck

The only symptom I had at that stage was a metallic taste in my mouth.

Thank you for this reassurance. It's so hard not to compare this to previous experiences. I guess pregnancies can be different...

I vividly remember when the projectile vomiting started last time and as hideous as it was to be so completely ill and wretched for absolute ages (I think til about 25 weeks), at least it gave me hope that pregnancy was 'working'.

Just have to wait it out. I know that there is nothing else for it.

Saw a happy heartbeat Such a relief!

Nausea kicked in big time on Sunday evening. Now everything tastes vile and it feels like a big vom is on its way. It's very sad that all of this makes me feel so happy.

Ah so pleased! I went for an early scan at around 8/10 wks cos I lost all symptoms for a few days and everything looked good and then ended up regaining all the symptoms the very next day! Typical! I know we have all moaned about sickness etc but at least it helps us to feel reassured haha.
