Question about 12 week scan

Hi all,

Im booked in for my 12 week scan on Tues. I was wondering if you find out the results of the nuchel test and blood test on the day or if you find out a few days later? I should have asked my midwife but forgot. Also roughly how long do the dating scan and nuchel tests take as my partner only has 1 hour off work to come with me for them?

Many thanks.

They take the blood sample but it needs to be screened alongside the nuchal measurement to give you your x in xxx figure. I got my letter about 10 days after my scan.

Hi I can't tell you about the nuchel test and blood test as I opted out of these tests. However, my scan only took 10 minutes or so but I was in the hospital for over two hours as it was so busy. After you have your scan they will want to have a chat with you and take some measurements and pee sample. Technically you can be in and out in half an hour depends on hospital. If it helps though apart from the actual scan then your partner won't be missing much apart from usual midwife-patient chit chat.

Oh sorry and part two of your question. 12 week scan was in and put in about 10 minutes and had to nip over to the pregnancy assessment unit for the blood sample. So all pretty quick but depends on waiting times, my scan was half an hour behind schedule from memory.

same as previous poster in that I got my letter about 10days after the scan. The radiographer did tell me during the scan though that the nuchal fold looked normal and she didn't think there were any issues (she was right).

depends on the hospital. I got mine on the day. We were low risk except as it turns out low risk does not mean no risk and DD has trisomy 18. As for the length of the scan, ours took forever, DD was not cooperating at all, I think we were there 2 1/2 hours. Hopefully you have a more cooperative baby though.

I think it all depends on which hospital you go to - I checked in for my scan and they sent me off for blood tests - went back, had the scan and the bloods were back by the time it was done so got the results straight away (low risk thankfully).

All in all it took around an hour so should hopefully be ok for your partner however it does all depend on how well behaved baby is on the day! We needed to wake ours up a bit!
