Piles, perenial massage and tearing..?

Hi all,

I'm new to mumsnet and a soon to be first time mum. I'm counting the days down now at 39wks + 3 and am probably spending too much time thinking and waiting.

I've been suffering with piles for the last two weeks. They're much more comfortable than they have been but very much still there, and I'm worrying that I haven't done any perenial massage and I won't be able to push without getting really nasty tears, or the piles exploding!

I've started to get sharp pains in my bum and not sure if it's a sign of the start of labour.

Does anyone have expereince with this and is it possible and worth starting massage now?

massage- well, you won;t lose anything by starting now, will you? with a nicely controlled delivery and a good position, it is possible to reduce the amount of tearing....i don;t beleive the piles will explode!!! the midwife might well cover them with a sterile pad at the time of delivery if neccesary.....consider delivering on all fours, to take some pressure off ! mext time you see the midwife ask for a bit of advice..they have seen it all before..or if not seeing her before 41 weeks, give her a call...

sharp pains in your bum,..sign the baby is settling down into the pelvis and everything is starting to gear up ..

i didn;t do any perineal massage and had no tears and a slight labial graze that needed only a couple of stitches!!

HTH

welcome to mumsnet !!

Thanks for the tips. It's such a strange feeling going into the unknown of labour and parenthood. I've tried to prepare myself as much as possible, but guess it really is wait and see.
