GENDER SCANS - WAS YOURS RIGHT?

ourookie · 24/11/2006 21:11

I had a scan this week - told I was having a girl. 2 weeks ago, different sonographer said boy. My friend was told all the way through it was a girl, and at 38 weeks was told it was a boy (correctly). Does anyone else have any more stories like this?

In my last pregnancy, right until birth I was told to expect 3 girls....then I had ds!! They were very shocked

KittyLetteItSnow · 05/12/2007 15:53

Yes both times I was told by hospital and private scan I was having boys.

Right both time

JingleyJen · 05/12/2007 15:56

at 20 weeks we asked if it was obvious and she pointed to a pair of testicles (very clear!) on the screen and said - girls don't have those!
it happened the same with 2nd pregnancy - we have 2 boys.

daisynova · 05/12/2007 15:59

I had my 20 weeks scan at 22 weeks - last week - and was told that it was a little boy. hard to disagree with them when his little balls and willy were being waved about for everyone to see. He isn't a shy baby!!!!

stockingfiller · 05/12/2007 16:05

was told girl and got dd, so did my sister thin it depends who scanning you and what there equp like lol

Zhareen · 05/12/2007 16:12

Thanks for your messages. I've just got this niggly doubt in my mind though. Basically at the start of my scan I saw, what I thought at the time were baby's legs and two almost identical very round lumps! When the sonographer checked for the sex she said that there are definately no boy bits, and even I could figure that out! I've told half the world I'm having a girl. Could those lumps represent anything else?

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 05/12/2007 16:18

Zhareen at 20 weeks the testes won't have decended . I may be wrong but with girls you do see two sides with a split in the middle whereas with a boy you will see a willy.

Sweetiesandcakes · 05/12/2007 16:23

I was told at 12 weeks that i was having a girl and then again at 5 months and they were right. Apprently a girl shows a horizontal white line and the boy a vertical white line between the legs (or is it the other way round)??? Bugger, can't remember. Are there any sonographers out there or can answer this?

Zhareen · 05/12/2007 16:26

That makes me feel so much better - saw the two sides etc.

Zhareen · 05/12/2007 16:29

I was told by the sonographer that she saw two white lines - I was too busy laughing and crying that I didn't check which way they were !

Sarahjct · 05/12/2007 17:02

Ooh, I'm worried now! We were told 70% girl at 20 week scan, then had private gender scan and were told definitely girl. Sonographer pointed out three white lines which are apparently girlie bits. Seems they look for something resembling a snail if it's a boy...

minspugs · 05/12/2007 19:50

with dd1 told a girl and they were right. didnt find out with dd2 and with this one theyve said another girl so we'll have to see. sonographer did seem very sure it s a girl and checked twice. my friend was told hers was a girl and she had a boy. dont know of any one else whos been told the wrong sex though.

Jojay · 05/12/2007 20:02

They were right at my 20 week scan - DS for us!!

I don't know anyone who's got it wrong either

MrsMar · 05/12/2007 20:52

They were right with me too, ds. The midwives told me they'd never known the sonographers at St George's in Tooting to get it wrong. When she showed me his willy on the scan there was no doubting it, we got a lovely clear view!

ConnorTraceptive · 05/12/2007 21:08

we were told boy at the 20wk scan - actually it was dh who said before the sonographer "Oh look it's a boy you can see his ball bag"

Guess we'll find out in march

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 05/12/2007 21:11

it was extremely clear at my scan at 22 weeks - I'd had a lto of extra scans with DD and knew exactly what I was looking at - got the sonographer to definitely confirm as just as I was looking at the appendage and thinking 'that's a boy', she said 'do you want to know the sex' thus pretty much giving it all away

If DS had been born a girl, I would have been astonished and medical history would have been made I reckon!

ourookie, are you still around? wouold love to know

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 05/12/2007 21:18

20 week scan said girl - 20 weeks later our dd arrived

It was obvious in the scan though - she was being coy to start with but then turned and opened her legs - all the girlie lines were there for all to see.

BibiJesus · 05/12/2007 21:23

3/3 correct for me, all girls.

Found out with DS2 and they were right - mind you, when we asked how sure she showed us him waving his bits around and said "we are not allowed to say 100% but that is a boy!"

SIL was told 70% girl for her DD2 and they were right for her too.

I did ask this time and they said it looks 'most likely' a girl although LO had its legs crossed at the ankle so I am not convinced! Should find out in a few weeks!

Niecie · 06/12/2007 11:38

Our local hospital wouldn't tell us the sex of DS2 when I was expecting as they have an error rate of 5% apparently and when there are 4000 babies born in the hospital in a year that is a lot of parents who have a bigger surprise than normal when their baby is born!

bluebell82 · 06/12/2007 14:06

Has anyone else who has been told they are having girl, flew into blind panic at the prospect that they could be having a boy- don't get me wrong all I want is a healthy baby, but a healthy boy baby may feel slightly uncomfortable in his pink nursery.. catch my drift!!! When we were told we were having a girl she was very definite- she was a bit moody anyway so we didn't like to question- but when we asked the midwife she said that if she said it was a girl she would be confident it was a girl and it is difficult to get it wrong at 21 weeks... panic stations, try to bully dh into a private scan now!

DS1 was confirmed a boy at 12 week dating scan and DS2 was confirmed a boy at 20 week scan.

HIJACK- By the way - does anyone know how I can make my text appear normal size again?
DS1 mashed the keypad with his palm, now all the writing is massive, so massive in fact, I cannot start a new thread to ask!!

Camillathechicken · 06/12/2007 14:39

right both times for me at the 20 weeks scan.

with DS, as soon as she began scanning me, DH said 'oh look, it's a boy !' and the sonographer confirmed. you can see his willy on 3 of the 5 scan pictures i have.

with DD, we couldn;t tell, but the sonographer said girl.. and said 'there are her labia' and showed us her bits.. 3 white lines, very different to what we saw with DS. I had a growth scan at 34 weeks and she rechecked. DS was hoping his little sister would somehow have turned into a boy.

My friend was told she was having a boy with her DD2 !! it can happen.

a lot depends on the position of the baby, the scanning equipment and the sonographer's expertise.
