Hat sizes

Hi, hope someone can help because I feel a bit clueless!

I'm due in November and I'm trying to find a hat for baby to wear home. The thing is, all newborn hats look massive! I've found some I like in Next that come in First Size (5lb), newborn and 0-3.

Which size should I go for?

Depends, are you likely to have big or small baby based on your size, husbands and recent babies born in your family. If you don't know then go for new born. Babies do have relatively large heads, which is why they come out head first!

I didn't think to consider estimated size of baby I'm having a growth scan tomorrow so will think about it again then. Thanks!

I noticed that. Then I sort of imagined the baby's head size which is about 10 cm in diameter and I think they're about right. Flat they always look bigger. Just get a newborn one and if it's a little loose it doesn't really matter.

Knitted hats have some stretch in them particularly if they have a ribbing pattern, so I used one that was a gift from a grandparent for my DS as his head turned out to be extraordinarily large.

Any will do! Even a blanket up and around from behind to cover them for the few moments you are going to the car is grand. As some others suggested, woolly hats are stretchy but so are all the little cotton ones. If its too big, just stick it on for the trip to the car. Honestly, babies are not as delicate as you think!
