Hi ladies, I was told by a friend in my last pregnancy that she swore by this to start labour, so I tried it at 38+ weeks, and my waters broke soon after, gave birth within 24 hours, not sure if the oil caused this or if it was a coincidence(sp?), any way i have since heard stories that it can be dangerous (i thought this was castor oil), to take for this reason and not sure whether to try it again this pregnancy, and experiences or info, would be much welcomed thanx

the problem with cod liver oil and pregnancy is too much vitamin a. However I've just got out my bottle and it says 2 spoons normally but one spoon daily if pregnant.

castor oil has been traditionally used to induce labour...not cod liver oil! that is for healthy & supple joints!

i would not recommend castor oil to induce labour as it can give your horrific diaorrhea and stomach pains..and if by some chance you go into labour....you will spend most of it on the loo !

i don;t think you can do any harm with the cod liver oil, but i think it was more likely a coincidence.

Please do not try castor oil xx

might be best to limit intake of cod liver oil!

thanks every one thats kinda what I thought, thanks for the info Lulu, i dont eat fish any way, or take the oil so thats ok, i know a few people who've tried it for labour and it worked. but as you say could be a coincidence!! Any way might give it a wee try again in a couple of weeks if its not harmful!! xx
