how soon can I test?

How soon can pregnancy tests work? Have never really had to think about this before.

In the last 2 days I've suddenly been having all the symptoms of early pregnancy (absolutely bone-crushingly tired, nausea, feeling weak and dizzy, sense of smell and taste suddenly changed, breasts suddenly extremely sensitive, hormones all over the place), but I think it's almost certainly too soon to be pregnant.

Came off the mini-pill (after >10 years on it) Saturday 1st August; DTD (for the first time in several months) Sun 2nd, Tues 4th, Fri 7th, Sun 9th.

Even assuming the unlikely scenario that on stopping the pill I ovulated straight away and it got fertilized on Sunday 2nd, it wouldn't have implanted yet, and i'd be very unlikely to have any symptoms yet, correct?

I do realise this could all be PMT, but I don't remember anything being this extreme before...

It's almost certainly hormonal from where you've come off the pill, especially as if you ovulated on 2nd August - having sex on 2nd could potentially be too late and the times afterwards definitely would be. You are advised to have sex just before ovulation so the sperm reaches the right place just as ovulation occurs

But for arguments sake if you did ovulate on 2nd, you'd need to wait another week to test

Normally you'd expect a withdrawal bleed after stopping the pill. So if you stopped taking it on 1 August, have you had this yet?

The earliest you should test is around the time your next period is due. So assuming a normal cycle (which this doesn't look like it will be, but anyway) you should test around 28 August.

Do you know what day in your cycle you are? (First day of period = CD1)
On average on a 28 day cycle ovulation takes place around day 14. Then if an egg is fertilised, you can get an accurate result around 10 days after with early testing kits like a FRER. But most accurate on the day/days after the date of your due period.
But if you've only had sex in the past week it is WAY too early to be having symptons or testing.
The wait will seem like forever, but try to relax and hold out for the next fortnight.

sizethree - no idea what part of the cycle I am (other than likely to be ovulating any time from last week to the next 2-3 weeks or so), this is the first cycle i'll have had since about 2002.

In the meantime - er - back to the necessary activity and waiting!
