Pointless worrying caused by guilt?

I am newly pg and am 5+4 according to my fdolp . . I have been having mild period pain like cramps the odd sharp twinge but no spotting or anything .. I think myimd is in overdrive because a close friend has just discovered that her twins had no heartbeats at 10weeks...

She had been trying for2years and I feel guilty because I've been successful on my first attempt (coil was removed end if June)

I'm trying not to worry and have a what will be will be attitude but I think the time until I first hear that heartbeat or even see the scan I might just drive myself crazy ..

Anyone have any tips so I don't turn into a paranoid Google freak? Xxc

Hello! We've all been there trust me! The first trimester is full of miscarriage worries and you will get a lot of weird twinges and cramps that make you think the worst.

I would love to have a remedy for you, but really there is no trick other than to try and look after yourself and remember that you really don't have that much control so worrying (although tricky not to do!) is a bit pointless .

....didn't stop me however...

Hello and congrats. It's totally normal to have all kind of cramps and twinges, after a while you do get used to it. I found it handy to chat to friends who've recently-ish been pg as well as posting on the boards here - was a godsend when I had some spotting at 6 weeks, which I'd never hear of before but it's quite common.

I had this til about 8 weeks. It's just your uterus stretching and placenta growing. Nothing to worry about. I'm 38 weeks now so can sit like a wise old sage and say, it's the first of many things you will worry about over the next 35 weeks that will be completely normal and harmless!

I had this too. My sister had a D&C after finding no heartbeat at 10 weeks, a couple of weeks before I got pregnant. Up until the 10 week mark of my pregnancy I was quite frantic, obsessively googling symptoms and quite, quite convinced that the first scan was going to show no heartbeat, or that my symptoms were waning and I was about to miscarry. It was bloody awful.

After I passed that 10 week mark, everything seemed to get a bit better, and I worried less. In hindsight, I think guilt played a large part, and a degree of transferrence of my sadness and distress about her loss towards my own pregnancy.

My advice would be to not spend too much time looking up symptoms on the internet. I've found that internet forums tend to skew towards the 'worst case scenario' stories which is understandable - people want to share what they've been through. Still, not much help when you're fretting! If you're seriously worried go and see a doctor or midwife. If nothing else, they can provide reassurance that what you're going through is normal.
