Baby shower

I'm 21+2 now and just curious as to when people tend to have baby showers?

A few of my friends have mentioned that I must have one. Didn't really think of it before lol

And what is the etiquette? Reading online some create a list of things still needed... or is this more American?

If you want one, have one, but I think they are such an odd "tradition" (American I know but gaining popularity here). I always find it odd to buy a gift before the baby is born....what do I then do when the baby arrives? No gift, another gift?

I think it depends on what you are looking at having, my husband is American so I find a lot of American style baby showers are a bit over the top for my liking. My mum wants to throw me one and I will be about 31/32 weeks but we are keeping it fairly low key and more of a girly get together.

American here. It's a fun tradition but important to note the mother-to-be does NOT throw herself a shower. A friend or relative does it. If your friends are saying you must have one, tell them to organize for you. I had one and it was really fun, I didn't care too much about gifts but got amazing advice from experienced mothers that I will refer back to over and over.

I think it's also much bigger in.the states due to generally non existent maternity packages - it's a way of helping out friends in advance and lessening the burden financially as well as having a nice time together.

Personally, I'm not overly keen on them. I like the idea of getting a group of mates together for dinner/lunch/afternoon tea but that's enough for me. I've heard of a few that seem quite grabby.
