I'm 33 weeks pregnant and have just noticed that my right ankle is swollen. Its quite low down, just above the bridge of my foot, its quite noticeable though. The other ankle looks ok but my fingers are like fat pork sausages . Do I need to go get this checked out. I've read one book that says its normal and due to water retention but isn't there something to do with pre-eclampsia that you have to becarful about? Don't want to over react and go running to the midwife if this is normal and nothing to worry about. TIA. x

Pre-eclampsia sign that a MW will look for on your check ups are swelling (particularly in feet and ankles), high blood pressure and protien in your urine. As you can't check the later two yourselves it might be worth rining your M/W to see if she thinks there is a need for concern.

If you have any headache or visual disturbance you should defo get checked out as these are more signs of the condition.

Good luck

get it checked out at next appointment. Can just be nothing, but can be sign of something worse. Better to put your mind at rest.
