C-section risks

Just been for regular appointment with consultant I'm 40+2, he tried to do a sweep & couldn't as cervix was still not ready!

I'm booked in for induction on Wednesday morning.

He said that he really feels induction works & I have a normal birth as there is to many risks involved with c-section for ME due to my bmi 42.

Have any one else been there?

I asked him what risks, he just suggested 'stitching due to fat'

Hi, when I got pregnant with DS in 2013 my BMI was 42, as my BMI was over 40 I had a lot of extra appointments including one with an anaesthetist who explained that as a high BMI patient it can be quite difficult to insert a spinal block because they can't feel your spine so placing the needle is difficult and there is a much higher risk of paralysis, she also said that if you did have a csection because of the risks of a spinal block you were also much more likely to be put under general anaesthetic as it was less risky but you would obviously miss the birth of your baby.
In the end I went into labour naturally, but my DS was back to back and after 45 hours of labour (having been told I wouldn't be able to cope for longer than 12 hours due to my size!) I was given an EMCS, however they were able to get a spinal in easily and I was awake, the only issue was that my very short surgeon had to stand on a box in order to reach my bump ????. However the op took no longer than normal and despite my size I healed very well and you can now barely see the scar!
Good luck with your induction, trust your body and if you do end up with a csection you'll be fine.

Thank you AP Glad everything went very well for you. I unfortunately can't have GA as I'm a severe asthmatic & they said it's not safe due to the breathing to put a pipe down my throat. I also had appointment with the anaesthetist at 34wks whom told me this. just hoping everything goes well.

I also have a high bmi and had to have a c section due to baby being breech. They would not entertain the idea of a normal delivery. There was no mention of general anesthetic and the spinal worked well. I have also healed really well. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine x
