I had a scan at 8 plus 3 and the baby was like a cashew nut. I can't remember if there was a heartbeat but I think there might have been.

I also had a scan at 6 weeks with DS2 and there was 2 sacs and one heartbeat. The other baby didn't make it here.

With ds i had a scan at 10+2 could see 'baby' shape however had to go back at 12+ weeks as had to do measurements to make sure everything ok

Can remember feeling sick all day with second child. Good luck 2moro hope everything goes well. Is this your 1st?

Tutter · 22/11/2006 17:04

they'll prob do an abdominal scan first and only use the probe if they can't detect a heartbeat that way

with ds i had a transvaginal scan at 5w6d then an abdominal one at 9 weeks

don't worry if you do have to have the tv one - it's fine - less uncomfortable than a smear ime

Tutter · 22/11/2006 17:04

good luck

lulumama · 22/11/2006 17:05

unlikely they will give you an external scan.

internal is much better for getting a clear picture of what is happening. you have to get used to having your bits faffed with when you are pregnant!!

i have had several internal scans, they are a little uncomfortable but not painful and the sonographer will be discreet.

7 +4 likely ( but not guaranteed ) to see a heartbeat and how many babies you are carrying. baby will look like a kidney bean and the heartbeat is a white flicker.

good luck...

Should see foetal pole and yolk sac. Might see a heartbeat but try not to worry if not.

Internal ultrasound is about a hundred times better than a smear test, by the way, so if you've survived a smear it should hold no terrors for you...

nadinetd · 22/11/2006 17:13

i had to have a couple with 1st pregnancy and i sort of dread them as i kind of associate the internal with the baby i lost oh well lets see what tommorow brings ill update about 10am x

I can relate to that -- had a m/c with my first pregnancy (and a whole bunch of internal scans, because dates, scans, etc., were confusing) and when I had spotting early in second pregnancy and had another internal scan there was a feeling of "here we go again". But that time they found a heartbeat (woohoo!) so now I see the internal u/s a s a positive thing because it brought good news. I hope it will be the same for you after tomorrow...

lemonaid · 23/11/2006 09:50

How did it go?

nadinetd · 23/11/2006 10:26

hiya
everything went well baby is measuring fine and baby had heartbeat, so thats all good news the sac has a strong wall around it which is good and no sign of blood or anything so the scanning lady was positive.
