If you had a planned c section when was it booked in? Do they run out of spaces for planned sections? Sorry if this is a silly question. Thanks in advance

They'll usually book you in for week 39 of your pregnancy unless there's a health reason that means you or baby need one earlier.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 30/07/2015 18:37

They don't run out of space as such but if emergencies come in your date night be bumped to the next day, or later on

New30 · 30/07/2015 19:13

Thanks, how far along in the pregnancy are most booked? Weeks in advance or very close to the time or does it really just depend?

Mine's booked in already - was booked at consultant appointment just before I was 20 weeks. Consultant said we knew I had to have CS so no point waiting to book it in. With my first baby I think it was booked at about 32 weeks.

I imagine it depends on circumstances and hospitals though.

In my hospital I've been told you don't get bumped for emergencies - they have separate teams and operating theatres for emergency and non emergency CS.

puddleduck27 · 30/07/2015 20:24

Mine is getting booked next week. I'll be 35 weeks Smile

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 30/07/2015 20:46

Depends on the reason, the hospital and the consultant. Maybe ask your midwife when you'll see the consultant

Even with two theatres you could get bumped if there are 2 emergencies. Unlikely but it happens. Usually it's just a case of waiting a few hours though.

New30 · 30/07/2015 20:59

Thanks everyone. I see the consultant again at 34 weeks, so not long to wait. Just I had seen a few people seemingly like optimism where they had been booked much earlier and I'm just curious as to what others are experiencing and if I'm 'normal'!!

I'm 32 weeks, think I might be getting my date at 34 weeks but I've heard of it being later, maybe 36 weeks.

New30 · 30/07/2015 21:28

Thanks Matilda we are around the same then

I saw the consultant for a 36 week appointment when I was 35+6 and they booked me for a c-section when I'll be 39+1.

Allthefours · 30/07/2015 22:19

I'm 28+5 and saw the consultant today. They have given me the week that I will deliver but won't know the exact date until 2 weeks before. I'll be between 38+2 and 38+6 for the birth. They originally proposed the following week, but due to anxiety for a number of reasons I requested the week before and they were happy to book.

Our hospital has a separate theatre for elective c sections so it's unlikely we'll get bumped by emergencies.

HayFeverSucks · 30/07/2015 23:24

I got my section date at 23 weeks. It's for 39 weeks exactly.

Gillian1980 · 30/07/2015 23:25

Be known from the start that I'd be having an elcs but at my hospital they won't book it until really close to the time.

I'm 37 weeks now and have been told they're aiming to book me in for next Thursday but it won't be confirmed until next Tuesday!

New30 · 31/07/2015 09:59

Wow Gillian that's close!

Gillian1980 · 31/07/2015 10:25

I know! Crazy.
I'm psyching myself up for it but also have to keep it in the back of my mind that it may be delayed - I really hope not!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 31/07/2015 10:32

With DS they were going to book me in at 37 weeks - it was due to low lying placenta so they were hoping it'd move. Had given birth by then though so never got booked.
This time I'm seeing the consultant at 34 weeks, although of course he might say 'no' but if yes, I'm assuming I'll be booked then.

MummyPiggy87 · 31/07/2015 12:04

At 21 weeks they booked me in so I'll be 39 weeks on the dot. Good luck all Thanks

MooleyWooleyShamaLamaDingDong · 31/07/2015 12:07

I'm booked in for term+10 as I'm planning to try for a vaginal delivery. I had an EMCS with my DD and I've been told that the risks of rupturing if I have to be induced are fairly high hence why the CS booked (plus I don't fancy induction again, was not the best experience last time......and I'm a wuss!!) Grin

Trickytricky · 31/07/2015 13:59

Mine won't be booked until I see the Consultant again at 32 weeks (currently 29 + 3). She suggested it would be in week 39 but I would ideally like it to be as close to Due Date as possible.

Trickytricky · 31/07/2015 14:00

How long are you all having off work before ELCS? I was planning on take 2 weeks off ahead of due date but if ELCS will be in week 39 then I'll only have a week...

bonzo77 · 31/07/2015 14:06

Last time was "semi elective" I had 3 days notice, baby born at 35+5. This time they've been offering to book it for me since around 28 weeks I think. I actually booked it last week at 32 weeks for 39+1. Unless it needs to be brought forwards.

bonzo77 · 31/07/2015 14:09

Oh yes, seperate theatres and teams for electives at my hospital. Electives in the main theatres suite, emergencies in theatres on labour ward. Have been in both (DC1 was an EMCS). For elective I had amazing one on one aftercare and I was the only case that day. Luxury!

bonzo77 · 31/07/2015 14:16

Time off: I was working one day a week last time and had the cs on the day I was meant to work. I'd worked the previous week. This time also working 1 day a week, I will have been off for 4 weeks, but that's because the first 2 of those weeks is AL, booked before I was pregnant and the last 2 just sort of worked that way, though if baby comes early then I'll not have to cancel any work like I did last time!

AnneSansTete · 31/07/2015 14:33

I'm getting so stressed about this already. Currently 18 weeks with dc2, consultant wants to book me in for 39 weeks. I have to have a cs as there's a good chance I could bleed to death with a vaginal birth. I live 1.5 hours from hospital and my son was born at 36 weeks with a 2 hour labour.

I think I might just set up camp outside the hospital at 35 weeks.

mewkins · 31/07/2015 14:39

I was booked in for 39+6! I only got the actual date about two weeks before.
