Bump measurements

Hi there

I've just been for 28 week midwife appointment and my bump is measuring a bit over what it should be, now I know they usually send you for a GTT if you're a bit over but I'm having one anyway due to diabetes in the family, but just wondered what happens if it gets bigger or stays bigger? 2nd baby my first was bob on the whole way so no experience of this before :)

Watching this post with interest as tomorrow I have GTT as had a planned growth scan & baby is measuring big -not sure what happens next but feeling pretty stressed about it all.

28 weeks & just want all to be ok

If measurements continue to be on the larger side or change dramatically between appointments then I expect you will be monitored with scans every 2 wks or so.
Or if the GTT comes back positive again you will have regular scans.

I was the opposite, mine changed from the avg to the lower line confirmed by a scan but came back up again after a couple of weeks.

Usually they won't do much from 1 measurement as using the tape can be affected by a number of things.

My mw said that as long as the measurements follow the curve, they don't worry too much. Its if the shoot up (or down) a lot that they worry. Mine have gone up and down a lot but its due to baby being in an awkward breech position. If it sticks its head up i measure bigger!

Thank you very much for the info ladies, I'm not too much bigger than I should be, will find out in a few weeks at next midwife appt how things are going, was mainly curious as to what would happen :)

Sorry for hijacking your thread - the baby has changed centiles from 50 to 95? So if it is not GD, I wonder what they do then?

Hijack away! :) Having babies is hard, stressful work at times, and that's before they're even out!
I really hope yours goes well too. Maybe we're just having chunky babies

The bump when I was pregnant with DS measured huge throughout the third trimester. Significantly over every time.
I wasn't big in myself (size 12, average weight gain) it was all bump. Kept being told he'd be a 10 pounder...and he was 8lb bang on.

I'm having a big baby, actually off the chart completely at 39+2, they aren't worried about size as he's been big since they started measuring him so like notta said Aslong as they follow curve (mw drew mine on) they don't worry, I had a scan due to baby being breech where he measured 8 3 at 36 weeks. But they've never once offered scan or tests other that gtt which was fine x

I have measured a bit bigger all the way through. I have a growth scan booked next week (36+2) as my previous baby was large (11lb). I had GTT at 28 weeks that came back clear, but had another last week and have been diagnosed with GD. Because of both of these things I'm most likely to have a c section, to reduce/remove the risk of shoulder dystocia (my dd had it when born).
Despite all that, I don't think the fundal measurements are too accurate tbh. If I haven't had a bowel movement before I'm measured then my measurements are higher, and if baby has moved to different positions I measure bigger or smaller depending. With my dd I measured fine all he way through, (she was normal measurements at the last scan 21 weeks) and by the end of the pregnancy she was huge. Hopefully your growth scan will be more accurate, and give you peace of mind.
Good luck with everything, and try not to worry based on just fundal measurements.

*I have been diagnosed with GD this pregnancy, not the first. I had GTTs through my last pregnancy and all came back clear.

I'm terrified my baby is too big. Was reading up last night on big babies but everytime I raise my concerns the midwives say my body has been preparing for labour etc. I've been low risk since 16 weeks and never been checked for gd since 28 weeks, just hope he fits and has no problems during labour xx

So my GTT was clear so now just have a huge baby that has grown from 50 to 95 without a reason! They are going to do another scan in 4 weeks so will see what happens then!

I only had a second gtt because there was glucose in one of my urine samples (and then a finger prick test). As long as your midwife is keeping check on your urine, I probably wouldn't worry about getting another gtt done S2.
Boxtroll babies can vary throughout in size, it may drop again. But it's good to know they're keeping an eye on it.

I delivered my baby and would love to say measurements were wrong, but I'm now laying breastfeeding my 10lb 5oz baby.

S2b16 that's not what I want to hear, I'm 35 weeks and been measuring big for last three appointments! Keep telling myself how inaccurate fundal measurements are. Out of interest, how was it delivering a 10lb 5oz baby?

Awww you really won't want to hear the labour story ha ha. I had no pain relief till waters went at 7cm, then had gas and air and meptid. I couldn't dilate past 9 and baby was distressed. Was low dependency so they considered moving me but agreed to monitor me and stretch me to 10cm, once started pushing, he became more distressed and I just couldn't push him out, he was stuck. So had forceps, twice they tried but they couldn't get him out, then the suction cap which worked. Reading my notes it only took 10 mins to get him out but felt like a lifetime, luckily he regained colour within seconds and got to stay with me while they stitched me up, which took 45 mins. Pretty horrible and scary....sorry, not the kinda story you want to hear xx
