33 Week Scan

I had a Scan at 22 weeks, everything was fine, apart from my placenta being in the wrong place. They have booked me in for a 33 week scan to check progress.
Is this fairly common and what does this all mean.

Its not common practice to scan at 33 weeks unless they are checking for something. As you say your placenta is in the "wrong" place I presume this is what they will be checking for.

Is it a low lying placenta? That is normally the case. It is very likly that it will move by 33 weeks though.

The other common factor they may scan for at around 33 weeks is if your baby is breech.

agree with FSF..if you have a low placenta,(placenta previa) then it needs checking to ensure it has moved out of the way , ifyswim, before birth..

as FSF says, they often do move..that will be all......

Tallie, can i add that I had a scan at 33 wks to check on my low placenta (that was noted at my 20 wk scan). It's nothing to worry about. My placenta has moved as the sonographer said it would! They just have to check on these things.
The bonus is that you get to 'see' your baby again! Yipee!

Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just take it easy.

Hi, I had a low lying placenta which showed on my scan at 20 weeks. The scan person said they didn't think it would move, but the consultant said it probably would. It didn't move in the end and I had a csection which was fine. I think the people who do the scan can give you the best idea of what might happen as they see them every day.
