Very very anxious. My brother and his partner went to hospital for induction 28hours ago. No news since. I am so scared something has gone wrong. It is first baby for them both. DSIL induced at 40 weeks because baby small and placenta not working effectively........

Any stories of long labor following induction?

Mine was 38 hrs. Induction often takes ages especially first time mums. Try not to panick.
I hope they're all ok.
Plus they may have had baby and now enjoying some time alone before letting family know. We didn't tell a sole for a few hours.

My non induced labour was 48 hours, sometimes it just takes a long time! Inductions are known for being long, drawn out processes. Hope you get some news of a baby soon!

Thanks nutelladipper. I hope that they are just enjoying some time with their precious new baby. My sisters and I are going out of our minds with worry (db is the youngest of us). I don't know how to distract myself!

Induction can take long time. There may be no phone reception on the ward, or they simply have no time for it. I don't think we contacted the outside world after going to hospital for at least 2 days. Labour and having a newborn is so overwhelming!

Thanks worldsbiggestgrotbag. My own first labor was nearly 30 hrs but I guess because they have had a few concerns with this pregnancy I am extra anxious Sad

My induction took forever. Induced 9am Tuesday morning, gave birth 9pm Wednesday night. Try not to worry.

Oh lizzy, the waiting must be awful! But don't panic, as pp said it can be a lengthy process, and phone signal in hospitals isn't the best!
My mum was in hospital for 52 hours being induced with my brother.
If SIL has had to have pessaries to start her off they will often leave 6-12 hrs between doses so don't be surprised if nothing is happening yet.

Thanks everyone. I feel better now, and also teary that people are so lovely (I am also pregnant so emotions are a bit extreme Blush)

Perfectly normal I'm afraid, it can take hours for it to even kick in! And phone may be dead, etc. Don't worry, easier said than done I know.

My first induction was 3 days, it seems pretty standard after talking to others. I hope you hear something soon Smile

My sister was induced on a wednesday and sophie arrived sunday morning- eventually by emergency section.

Would you not jsut drop him a text, see how things are going? or do you not want to annoy him?

yep this happened to my brother. it took AGES. I am sure they are fine, it's just a slower process.

chicamoma I don't want to annoy him with texts (or her, I would not have taken kindly to DH being distracted by phone during birth of school!). Getting up to more than 36 hours now. I hope they are all ok...

Thanks everyone. Makes me feel much better to know lengthy wait not uncommon. How did your families cope?

DS1 took 2 days to be born. I was induced on the 2nd day. Babies take ages sometimes! Also factor in no phone signal, no phone charger etc

My friend went in for induction on a Thursday and baby was born on Sunday, so yes it can take a while x

I went in for induction of labour on
1st September last year, and my boy wasn't born until the 4th! Try not to worry, in can take a while, especially if the induction doesn't work at first but I appreciate the waiting is Confused

Induction can take forever. It can take all day for them to get around to starting the induction, let alone what happens after that.

Hopefully it is all over now and your mind is at ease, though.

Pretty standard for it to take ages or to not work. A friend recently had a failed induction, had c section after 4 days of not progressing. Hope all is well.

If it was an induction with the pessary it can take days. I think they call it a gentle induction or something similar. The synto drip is faster acting, but brutal.

I remember waiting for news in a similar way. She was five days in hospital before the baby was delivered, si try not to panic.

Much like the above poster, I went in Monday am and after 4 days of failed induction, DS1 was born at 10.30pm by c section on the Thursday!

I went in for induction at 7pm on Wednesday evening. DS wasn't born until 03:52 Friday morning.

It can take a loooooooong time.
