Oblique lie at 38 weeks - what to expect?

Hi,

Saw the midwife yesterday who thinks the baby is in an oblique lie. I'm being sent to the hospital this afternoon (they were too busy yesterday) for a scan. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar thing and what to expect?

Google leaves me none the wiser, some sites seem to think it is very serious, I should bring my hospital bag as I'll be kept in due to risk of cord prolapse and probably given a CS, others seem to think it's not a big deal at all and the baby is likely to move by himself at any time?

My last pregnancy was an oblique lie, I too was sent to hospital. The night before my appointment my ds moved and went head down by himself. It was about 38+2 and they arrangest feeling! Hope baby behaves!

Google spinning babies , may give you some ideas and worth a try. But Mother Nature may well do it for you Good luck x

I had unstable lie (a little spinning baby) and was admitted to hospital from 37wks. I went in for my usual midwife appointment and was not allowed home to pack my bag so deffo make sure you are organised (previous babies were always late so I was v lax!).

I was given an EVC at 38wks & induced, whilst it wasn't pleasant it wasn't horrendous either. I found sleeping/sitting up stopped my baby moving as much as they would move several times a day.

I would say look at spinning babies too.

Some babies dont engage til term or sometime til you are in labour

My baby is breech at 38 + 3 and I ended up staying in hospital last night due to high bp. Thank god i was prepared and hospital bag was in the car. Its def worth sorting before your scan, just in case.

DS3 was oblique. I popped in for a scan at 37 weeks (midwife wanted to check which way up baby was) and to my surprise was not allowed back home due to risk of cord prolapse. Consultant tried to turn him, but he wasn't having any of it, so I had an elective c-section at 39 weeks. Take your bag just in case and sort out childcare for DC1!

Thanks everyone - I did bring my bag and had totally prepared myself for this being it, elective CS, etc. Somewhat of an anti-climax to find baby has moved head down again (but a good thing, really!).

So I'm back in the waiting game again...
