Wanting a scan before 20 weeks

I am currently 17 weeks pregnant today. And my 20 week scan is in three weeks, on the 31st.

I understand if this comes off as me being incredibly paranoid but I would like to know if it is possible to request a scan before your 20 week anomaly scan?

I think I'm being overly paranoid but I don't appear to have a baby bump yet, just looks like I'm bloated now and then and it deflates in the morning, and I don't feel any fluttering in my belly.
Also I'm having a bit of cramping and some abdominal/pelvic pain

This may be completely normal so if you are in the same position or have been please let me know.

I have suffered a miscarriage previously at 8 weeks and only found this out at the 12 week scan in 2011. I had no signs at all of a miscarriage. Is probably making me even more scared.

Please let me know.

Hope your private scan goes well. As pp have said, the boating, cramps and not feeling movements are all normal. I was just the same. I had to see a consultant at 16 wks and got myself all upset. Told him i didn't feel pregnant (1st trimester symptoms wearing off) no bump, etc. He was so lovely and did a quick scan for me there and then, literally just a few seconds of there's your baby, looks like a baby, heartbeat and moving your ARE pregnant. Love him for it.

Not sure where you are but I just had a great 'early anomaly' scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre in London, it was £150 and incredibly thorough.

Like you I feel no movement and I look like I've just had a big meal rather than properly pregnant. I also have an anterior placenta which apparently delays the feeling of movement, despite the fact that the baby was flipping about around all over the place during the scan.

All sounds normal. But if you want a scan, private ones are easy to organise.

That period in between your 12 week scan and 20 weeks can be hard as all the early symptoms start wearing off but your bump's maybe not appeared and it's too early for some to feel movement so suddenly you don't feel quite so pregnant. It's a long eight weeks! In my last pregnancy and this one I was way too impatient and booked a gender scan in between to find out gender but also for a bit of reassurance. As for the cramps - that's just your body growing to accommodate baby - there's lots going on in there even though you might not have any outward symptoms. Smile
