Just wondered what other peoples experiences were of giving birth in the consultant led unit. I'm 37 weeks and starting to get a bit nervous, so would really appreciate any stories, good or bad so I can try and mentally prepare myself.

I used to work there . As a scientist, not a medic. I don't have much positive to say about it I'm afraid. Sorry :(
Friend of mine still works there and gave birth there - again, not impressed. They are very reluctant to section even if things go wrong, I've heard. Wards not cleaned well.

I hope some folks come along with better stories for you !

Oh dear I will be giving birth there in the midwife lead unit all going to plan and was super excited as ive heard great things about it.

ammature I'm sure you'll be fine, as in my research I could only find things about MLU and it all seemed positive (it's the CLU there's not much online about), so fingers crossed you'll be fine.

Skiptonlass Thank you for your honesty!

Sorry I can't say anything nicer! Bear in mind I may be biased - I have a very unscientific sample of two people I knew who worked and gave birth there (clu) - they may just have had a bad time of it. To be fair both had complicated births.

Hi. I have given birth in the clu there twice, most recently 6 weeks ago. Obviously I haven't given birth or even had an overnight stay in any other hospital, so nothing to compare to. It wasn't perfect either time but I doubt any nhs hospital is. I had no major complaints and would go back there if I was to have a third (which I won't! ).
Do you have any specific questions?

Yes, last year. I was induced, gave birth in the middle of the night and left the next day so wasn't there long. I thought it was fine. A lot of my friends had given birth in Prince Charles which is dire so I guess it's all relative. What in particular are you worried about?

Hello! I'm due to give birth at UHW Cardiff and 3 years ago before any of this was really a possibility, I was pretty much thinking of relocating to England to give birth because the rep was so bad! However - they had a couple of scandals and really revamped and now I think it is a different kettle of fish. two friends of mine gave birth there last year and only had good things to say. They were both on the midwifery led unit.

I am officially no longer worried and my trips for scans etc have all been positive to date.
