Is it normal to turn into a furby?

What is with all this hair?! My belly looks awful! I don't want to shave it because it'll grow back thicker, any tips with what's safe to use? Wax is a no no Confused I'm 20 weeks.

Ah, yes. Hormones apparently! I've got a furry tum too and a hairy baby (so much hair we could see it on the scan last week); not sure if the two are related!

Skiptonlass · 06/07/2015 17:02

I'm kind of liking the fur. It's only me, dh and the midwife who see it. Dh thinks it's fascinating and I'm sure the midwife doesn't give two hoots. My hair is thick anyway so I'm kind of resigned to the fuzzball look. Still shaving my legs (a real pain with a bump in the way) but that's about it.

Do you really need/want to be fuzz free? It'll probably resolve after the baby is born...

Skiptonlass · 06/07/2015 17:03

How exciting skeppers! There's something especially lovely about babies with a full head of hair. Hoping mine does too (I've certainly got the heartburn!)

Lunastarfish · 06/07/2015 17:04

Lol, I have a hairy belly too. I was hoping it is just the follicles being at a different angles so it looks like more hair but is really an optical illusion

scarednoob · 06/07/2015 17:07

I think it's either shave it or suck it up, sadly. I am also in the hairy club.

I did read that it's a sign you're having a boy, but mine's a girl, so that's another old wives' tale rubbished!

MummyPiggy87 · 06/07/2015 17:12

Haha, well this is a girl so deffo an old wives tale as i'm drinking gaviscon out the bottle!
I don't find it looks very attractive and my DH keeps laughing! I'm sure he doesn't mean it in a nasty way but being a women we do take it personally don't we!

Skiptonlass had a 34wk growth scan last Thursday and he has a distinct mullet-type affair going on...hair all down his neck!Confused

Saw my midwife last week and she was chuckling because another lady had asked her what to do to prepare 'down there' grooming-wise for the birth. I think you might have other things on your mind, love!

SoozeyHoozey · 06/07/2015 17:15

I don't think shaving makes hair grow back thicker. I'm of Greek descent and have dark hair all over my body. I've been shaving it for decades but if it made it thicker by that logic I'd be 3 gorilla by now but I'm not. It's impossible that cutting hair outside of the skin would affect the follicles below the skin.

scarednoob · 06/07/2015 17:18

there was a thread on here a while ago about whether to wax the foof before birth. personally I had thought that with all the screaming and swearing and bleeding and shitting ourselves, a bit of hair was going to be the last of anyone's worries.

until I saw an answer that haunted my very soul..... "the hairs get stuck in the stitches and pull at them".

think I might be booking a Hollywood after all, just to avoid that!!!

scarednoob · 06/07/2015 17:19

soozey apparently it is because shaving cuts the hair and makes it stubbly, which can appear coarser/darker. this is how the story that it made it thicker arose - it isn't any thicker, but it can feel like it, so people think it is!

MummyPiggy87 · 06/07/2015 17:23

Skeppers my son had loads of hair when he was born! It all falls out though as they get abit older, he was born with thick dark hair, which then turned into finer light blonde hair by about 8 months.

yep, that was my resolution too. such a terrible thing had never occurred to me. and I preferred it when ignorance was bliss!

coneywonder · 06/07/2015 17:37

I've left my fur and hope that it falls out after birth I'm due on wednesday!

Totally not bothering with my foof I neared it up a few weeks back and it doesn't look hurrendous so I'm leaving it!

sianihedgehog · 06/07/2015 19:06

My belly looks fluffy but I'm pretty sure that it's just because all the hair is standing on end.

Would like to strongly recommend that anyone else feeling a bit insecure about their body ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT get a large magnifying mirror and try to prune their bikini line back into shape. some things cannot be unseen . pretty sure the abyss gazed back.

Junosmum · 06/07/2015 20:17

Hair doesn't fall out when your pregnant in the same way it does when you are not so it will look like your hair, all over, is thicker. It will fall out shortly after birth.

Frolicacid · 06/07/2015 21:10

I've got s big hairy belly as well! I'm pretty light haired, so it isn't too noticeable. DH says it's like a giant, fuzzy peach. The big black pubes that have started sprouting from my belly button aren't quite as endearing Confused

geekymommy · 06/07/2015 22:40

The idea that shaving makes hair grow back thicker is a myth.
