I'm a total total needle phobe.. i can't look at a needle without fainting. . even writing needle is making me feel funny! i have my booking appt on friday and really thought after being positive that i can do this but now all i feel is dread at the thought.. im not faint at the sight of blood its just knowing that it will be put in my skin so im thinking if i can buy some numbing cream and numb any area where she might stick the needle then if i lie down and look away and can't completely feel it going in it might be alot better had anyone every used emla cream? and does it work okay!? my only Other option is to be referred to a phlebotomist instead to be numbed.. please don't say it doesn't hurt or lookaway this has been my life long fear and ive never had to have one before... thanks Smile

Hi this isn't from me but from dh - he is petrified of needles and had to be referred to a sedation clinic when he chipped a tooth! And because of his fears we tried emla cream - did everything as the instructions said - dh looked like a loon with both of his hands wrapped in clingfilm because we didnt know which side theyd choose lol but - and this is his words - he didn't think it worked because he was thinking about it too much and tensed up. So if you are going the emla route - it probably does work as long as you are calm and relaxed. Pregnancy and needles go hand in hand. X bless you I hope it goes okay when you have it x

Make sure you do both of the insides of your elbows - you don't want for them to have to try a side you haven't prepared!!!! Also like the other girls have said try to allay your fears because you're going to have to do this everytime and I know the cream isn't the most expensive stuff in the world but it is still quite a lot... So if they need to do bloods for multiple things make sure they get it all I one go xxx
