Sugar in urine

Well 2 weeks ago my gp detected sugar in my urine, got all panicy until he realised that I was routinly booked in for a gtt the following week ( dd was 9lb 4 even though I had a gtt with her..and diabetes family history )

Anyway sample messed up so was asked for another one a week later, this came back clear. On tue I saw my mw as routine (29 weeks) and again sugar was detected. She was due to send me for a gtt till she also found out I had just had one. She said to not worry and that if sugar was still present at 36 weeks I would be sent for another gtt...I;m confussed...I asked what sugar indicated and she said my kidneys may have a lot of strain on them with this pregnancy and they may be leaking gloucose . Isn't this something I should be concerned about..?? Could labour have an impact on my kidneys..? ie If they are struggeling now could they fail..? Sorry but prob just a mad pregnant woman worry!!

I asked if I can do anything to help and was told to cut back on sugary foods..ie choc, cakes and sweets etc.
I eat choc every night but NOT huge amounts and we don't eat cakes..only special times iykwim.
HELP...I am finding it hard to cut out choc 100%..can't drink, can't smoke, can't do drugs (not that I did the last 2 anyway..!)... I;m misrable...

Poor you! I think quite a lot of pg women leak sugar. Don't think it means their kidneys are packing in.

I really sympathise with the sugar problem - I never leaked sugar but my blood sugar was borderline GD last time and so I had no sugar at all from week 14. I had sugar-free treats which I won't be having this time, having been awakened to the dangers of aspartame. Am dreading the first blood test this time, and I have already tried to cut out as much sugar as poss so as to minimise the problem. It is completely bloody depressing, isn't it? And what makes it worse is people's assumption that you are eating for two - including chocolate, cakes, etc. Hate it, hate it, hate it!

Yeah, the pregnancy thing didn't depress me at all really but now I am being told to cut back on sugar...ffs I know its for my and babas health..but ffs cutting back on choc is like telling a drug addict his supply is being cut...

Gosh you stopped from 14 weeks... You are to be admired..!!! I do eat low fat stuff and drink diet and no addded sugar drinks etc so trying my best. Its just at night when I fancy something..sadly a bloody apple or fruit does nowt for me..!

So I should worry about my kidneys during labour..? God its one worry after another..!

I had sugar in my urine with both my previous pregnanices.
Each time I was sent for a GTT and each time it was negative.
I was told not to worry about it as some people just have sugary wee whilst pg.
At no point was I told that I was at any risk (I still got sugar at high levels at every AN test in the run up to both births)
My labours were both natural and I have suffered no consequences. Both babies were normal size wise too (8lb and 6lb 7oz)
The only thing was I had both a little early.
I am now pg with no3 and I pretty much expect the same thing to happen again.
I shouldn't worry too much. Press your MW for more info to calm your nerves.
I didn't cut out sugar but did try to moderate it a bit

Not really to be admired. I was an absolute nightmare to live with. DH is the one to be admired...

Hope happypiglet has made you feel a bit better.

Thanks happypiglet you have put me at ease slightly.

I know what you mean CD about dh's needing to be admired .

Thing is that I find I go the see my mw to check all is ok and I come away with my previous fears calmed BUT more fears..!!
This week I;m 29 weeks but she said I was measuring 32 weeks and not to be worried as long as its within 2 weeks..!! Sorry but isn't that 3 weeks difference and not 2..!!! Anyway she measured me again only to say "oh you are measuring 31 weeks" . Then they say "oh don't worry, everything is going perfectly normal". Thats also the same as "Mmmmm average size (which they said at all antenatals with dd and have started to say again with ds2b)" which in turn means baby is on scale to be another 9+ lber . Arrgghhh..
