Pre op assessment (planned section) - what should i ask?

As the title says, I have pre op assessment on 13th July (section on 15th). Is there anything that I should be asking? Does dh need to be there? Last section was emergency so not really sure what to expect. Xx

I'm having a c-section the same day as you! Well if I don't go into labour beforehand as getting loads of signs., My pre op is on the 8th though.

I've been led to believe the pre-op is a chance to explain the procedure, tell you that you cannot eat from a certain time, do MRSA swabs and other tests - maybe check your bp? Will tell you a time to be at the hospital etc. I'm not entirely sure. My first section was an emergency.

They will go through the order of events etc so any procedural queries you have should get answered.

I asked:
Can I wear my glasses (yes)
Do I need to clean the polish off my toenails (no)
When will the catheter be taken out (24h)

Really important questions as you can see! Your DH prob doesn't need to be there, unless you want to ask about anything that affects him.(cutting the cord?) - mine was the day before so DH started pat leave a day early.

I had an ELCS, and hence pre-op, back in April.

The pre-op consisted of a fairly short meeting with the anaesthetist who explained again the procedure and risks as well as anaesthetic options. I signed several papers at that point. She prescribed the necessary antacid medication.

I then met with a specialist nurse or midwife who took swabs from my mouth and groin (for MRSA). She also took some blood and I think took my blood pressure. She also gave me further leaflets about what would happen and what I should bring with me.

Mine was years ago now, but they did swabs and bloods and talked me through the procedure. Told me what time to get to the hospital. Advised me on nil by mouth the night before. Can't remember any more than that.

I had one back in October (breech). I went through my very specific birth plan with the mw and anethetist! It was a 'gentle section' birth plan so questions included:
Dh being in with me during anesthesia
Delayed cord clamping
dh cutting cord and announcing sex
immediate skin to skin and position of ecg leads to facilitate this
.....the list went on....they were very nice (despite me being quite high maintenance!) and also emailed the consultant with the plan!
I went alone as dh working. They also did bloods, swabs, signed consent, went through visiting etc.
