We have two bedrooms. DH and I often sleep separately anyway (snoring, fidgeting). We are both terrible without sleep so the plan was for one of us to sleep with baby at any one time, and the other to sleep in the other room. We're hoping to move house next year anyway. The room is recently painted (v neutral). We were just going to keep everything as is and bung a crib somewhere.

And then I thought 'but we could just get a cute lampshade or something, and a couple of pictures'.

AND NOW I HAVE ABOUT 15 INTERNET SHOPPING WINDOWS OPEN AND AM PONDERING THE RELATIVE MERITS OF WOODLAND CREATURES, BEARS AND ZOO ANIMALS AND INTERIOR DESIGN MOTIFS.

If you are moving it seems unnecessary work to me.
Many people don't do nurseries and just stick a crib somewhere.
By the time your baby would be into a particular theme enough to appreciate it you will have moved and then you can have a child's bedroom and skip the nursery.

I'm spending about twice what I thought I would on the nursery, have accepted that the baby won't appreciate it and that the jungle animal theme is really for me!

Why don't you just do a nice lampshade and rug rather than the full works!

My boy has purple walls and a pink carpet....this house was last decorated in the 80s and, at the rate we are going we will probably be in the 80s again before we get around to decorating! He has a couple of nice pictures and a fox rug so maybe you could look for things like that that you can take with you.

I used wall stickers, you can get them cheap online if you search through enough. You could just put them above or beside the cot to make a nursery area in the room.

Ok ok am going to limit self to wall stickers, a rug and a lampshade. Kids stuff is so much fun!! I now want to decorate the entire house with Noah's ark, or tractors, or foxes.

Is it going to be your first child ? If yes me personally - well that's what I'm doing - I'm going full wack. The cot/ nursery wardrobe etc - the rate I'm going I should have a share at mamas and papas but then again it my choice / ours and want it to be special.

I've still done some bargain shopping on eBay and that but I'm definetly having a nursery.

Baby will be in our bedroom for the first 6 months but I want to make it's room nice. Also that's where granny will be staying, so gotta make it nice for her! even though she'll bring the dog

Baby will likely be in with (one of) you for first 6months anyway. Priority in what can be a stressful time should, imho, should be to create pleasant, useable bedrooms, with crib/cot space, for both of you, until you move.
When your dc gets a bit bigger, you might find that a theme is not the way to go anyway. We had an extension built, so dd got a new room at around 2. I picked the carpet, some neutrallish lamp shades, and stuck up a bit of (naff) bunting. Other than that, the room is decorated with dd's own (crazy) art work, from different groups she attends, and her own taste in (often badly painted) ornaments. Plus loads of toys everywhere.
Tbf, it looks a mess. But then, I'm far from a minimalist myself!

We'v got two bedrooms too. I figure the second room would be much more useful as a spare for family coming to stay to help out (they live far away), or for chucking crap in that we need out of the way when the baby arrives. There's soooo much other stuff that you actually need to spend money on. The whole idea of a nursery from birth is just another excuse for shops to flog you loads of overpriced crap.

That said, if you know it's all just an indulgence for your benefit, and you want to do it anyway, crack on and enjoy!

I say do what the heck you want to do! You only get to bring your first baby home once, and even if they have a beautiful nursery to feed, change an read stories in - it's still their little space no matter where they sleep.
We'll be decorating (although my taste is minimalist, so it won't be too fussy, themed or matchy matchy!) even though I plan to have them in with us on a night time for a good few months.
And who cares if you move - as post people have said, you can take furniture, lampshades etc with you ... The rest is only paint.

I've never done a nursery due to space and funds. Currently 36 weeks with dc3 and in between buying a bigger house so he has nowhere to sleep yet, dh will build crib if he arrives while we're still in this house. However, I can't wait to decorate his bedroom, it will be the last room to be done in new house due to other children needing to be settled but honestly I can't wait...

Never done, we only have one main bedroom that we share.
Also iv never changed baby in the bedroom, always bathroom ( it's shit and piss, I don't want that smell in a bedroom and need water to wash baby bottom and our hands!), they only ever fed in there during the night, and we read to them on the sofa so an extra bedroom decorated just for thOse would be a waste

If You want to decorate I wouldn't add baby ish stuff, you want it to last at least 5 years and maybe extra children so something suitable neutral and age generic is best.

We went with white walls/grey carpet and have got a couple of prints framed. Cat in the hat/wizard of Oz. Figured baby doesn't even have any interests yet so might as well indulge our own childhood memories a wee bit. plus prints can then go up in our little library room

Gawd I wish my bathroom was big enough to change baby in it. It's tiny! Ah well, next house will have a gazillion bathrooms. One for each of us wanders away dreaming of the day we win the lottery and can afford such a house

Come - bathroom doesn't have to be big, I change in doorway at every other house or bath mat in bathroom and me just outside door

Oh now that makes sense now! my dd is 3 weeks old and I cannot see the obvious yet. My excuse that I'm sticking to like glue

DS was in with us to 1 year. His room needed repainting once he was weaned and no longer projectile pooing anyway.

We bought a moses basket, plain chest of drawers and a poing armchair to bf in that we still use for stories.

Apple, no one comes in and evicts your baby at 6 months, it's up to the parents! Mine were in till 8 months and then one year for ds2 - and even at 3 he stills prefers our room and heads in at some point each night.

I thought that too (before first born!) I hear the sofa is quite useful.
