I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I know - I'm dreading having to go back to the school run on Thursday. Not sure how I'm going to survive that one...

Heavenscent86 · 01/09/2015 11:09

Hopefully you will manage a decent nights sleep beforehand. And I guess try to take things as slowly as you can in the morning. Easier said than done I know!

LucindaE · 01/09/2015 11:22

BarmeeMarmee Sorry to hear of bad night and relapse; I hope you feel a lot better after a good one.
winky I hope a lot better. thisisnow Bugista Hevenscent and others, how are things today?
I am so glad that Lilac and Eallison approach the end of the Horrible Hyperemesis board game (had a good day; move forward one space; new appalling symptoms, move back two) and the Pink Castle at the end. To explain to new people; I used to have a Snakes and Ladders board with a lovely pink castle painted on at the end, and Hyperemesis often seems like a form of horrible board game with move forward one space, go back two...

Inset today, so managed it! Shorter hours, so coped! 1 day down and 8 to go... In theory! I will get to the end of this Friday! I will I will I will!

thisisnow · 01/09/2015 15:19

I have managed a sandwich today and sipping on coke seems to be helping, I know it's not good for you but Confused

I'll have no teeth left at this rate!

I don't know how anyone copes with this with existing children, demanding jobs - you're all saints!

Meerka · 01/09/2015 16:17

ealli cheering you on. It feels like forever, those last weeks, even hours at times. But it -WILL- pass.

thisisnow yeah, a lot of people with HG eat food they wouldn't normally touch. But getting any nutrition and calories down is good.

LilacRain · 01/09/2015 17:21

Eagerly awaiting first glimpse of Pink Castle... every time I get a particularly painful bout of braxton-hicks I think 'this is it, labour's starting'... but they fizzle out after a few hours! Does anyone know if it's normal for braxton-hicks to be worse on one side? Mine start in upper right abdomen then spread down but always more painful on upper right, like intense pressure that makes it hard to breathe in. I think baby has his feet under my ribs on that side and has bruised them!

Meerka thanks for great advice... I'm so excited about thought of not feeling sick, it's tempting to plan lots of trips out with baby, though I know I'll probably feel drained for a while and need to take it easy. Luckily DH has 2weeks paternity leave then my mum's coming to stay, so will be able to pace myself. After months of having my life ruled by sickness, the thought of going out without worrying about sick-bags, nearest loo, whether I can manage a hot drink or meal without vomiting seems like incredible freedom! I've almost forgotten what life was like before HG!

Eallison well done on getting through it, hope rest of week goes well too.

Thisis I think mouthwash helped protect my teeth, was amazed when dentist said they were fine at last check-up as I'd been using botanical toothpaste and not brushing after every vom-session just using fruity mouthwash. And I was sipping coke and sweet fizzy drinks all day.

Quick tip... I've found cardamon tea very helpful the last few days, seems to ease nausea and stays down better than other liquids. Apparently it's widely used in Middle East as a digestive tonic! Found it in Tesco marketed as 'Indian Cardamon Chai' just normal teabags (black tea) with cardamon powder added to them. Very refreshing and cooling.

eallison88 · 01/09/2015 18:31

lilac I know exactly how you feel; every pain in my bump/back/butt and I'm all "oo, cos this be it!". We'll get there. I too am looking forward to feeling good again - normal tiredness cos of new baby notwithstanding. Being able to eat properly and not worry about effects. A proper cup of tea!

Heavenscent86 · 01/09/2015 19:32

Hi I have had a reasonable day today so far. Fingers crossed for the evening. I can go along with eating food you wouldn't normally touch. I usually eat very little meat but have been absolutely craving lasagne, spag Bol, bacon, anything meaty really. Can't eat very much of it at the moment but it's so strange to be even slightly tempted to eat it.

Heavenscent86 · 01/09/2015 19:32

I hope I don't make anyone feel sick announcing my food cravings on here!

eallison88 · 01/09/2015 19:44

After the very worst weeks of vomming.wi found bacon a really safe food - particularly when it was crispy (I used to cook it to fairly crispy, then cut fat off and cook it more til it would snap!). I think it was the salt... now I really fancy a bacon butty!

thisisnow · 01/09/2015 20:32

For me it seems to go one good day and then one bad day... definitely snakes and ladders!

eallison88 · 01/09/2015 22:03

That sounds about right, thisisnow. Try to rest on good days and not try to do too much!

LucindaE · 02/09/2015 12:31

Lilac and eallison I'm urging those babies on to make a prompt appearance. That's a great idea about Cardamon tea; one so misses a cup of tea...I think the muscles on one side of the body are always stronger than on another, I don't know why; maybe that might be it?
Heavenscent It must be that the body makes you crave things that give you protein, etc, if you need it, I suspect, even in the throes of such a counter productive condition as Hyperemesis? Though I may well be wrong, and after all, yearnings for sweet and salty things are the norm for sufferers (but sweet stuff can give you such heartburn).
thisisnow A few weeks of coke won't rot your teeth. I once had a jaw operation and couldn't clean my teeth for twelve weeks (shock) only use mouthwash; they were fine, despite my eating sweet stuff. Dentists seem to disagree about whether swilling out the mouth after drinking it helps, but all agree that you should to remove the acid after puking, so they seem to contradict themselves, there...
Great advice from Meerka as ever.
Back soon. Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.

Fifth circle of hell this morning... Extended vomiting session on awakening with attendant bile/blood.

Then seated next to a woman who smelt strongly of wet dogs during antenatal classes, and who ate her way through several garlicky bacon sandwiches and strong coffees. Her husband was using snus (Swedish oral tobacco, smells like a combination of liquorice, shit and drains) all the way through. I managed not to vomit on her, not sure how.

6 more weeks to go till birth (maybe.) I can do this....

Greetings to all :)

thisisnow · 02/09/2015 14:27

Oh Skipton that sounds awful, hope you're feeling a little better this afternoon!

Skiptonlass · 02/09/2015 15:10

I've had better mornings! Lovely husband is working from home this afternoon and tucked me up in bed with a cuppa, so yes, better now :)

Sympathies to all suffering - it's no fun but we will persevere!

MotherofPearl · 02/09/2015 15:24

Glad you're now in bed Skipton, that bile/blood situation sounds dreadful. I can hardly think of anything more anti-social (esp at an antenatal class!!!) than 'oral tobacco' - yuk.
Ah, Eallison, you've reminded of my bacon dependency in later HG months! I think as you say it's the salt. As I've said before, I craved salt so much I even resorted to eating it on its own a few times. Blush
Hope everyone else is surviving the day? Barmee, thisis, Heaven, how are doing?
Big waves to Lucinda!

eallison88 · 02/09/2015 16:23

Had my late night bacon butty last night; bliss.

Today I've been told I'm to go on a trip every day next week. 38 weeks pregnant. Think I night start mat leave this Friday.

Reebok · 02/09/2015 17:35

Hello ladies, I hope you are all surviving. I've been on this thread twice. The first time I was pregnant with dd almost 3 years ago and the last time was 6 and a half weeks ago but unfortunately I mc that pregnancy. Well anyway, I got pregnant again and am currently over 6 weeks along. The sickness kicked in over the weekend and I feel rubbish. I'm worried it will turn into hg again. So far, vomiting is only 3 times a day...mainly wretching and feeling so nauseous to the point I'm struggling to look after dd. I can so far stomach cold grapes, sips of cold coke and cold water (must be refrigerated)...everything must be cold. Oh and sucking on lots of sherbets to get rid of that metal mouth. Im back to work tomorrow for the first time in 7 weeks...I'm a teacher and mc at the end of term. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself just in case I get worse! Thanks for reading!

MotherofPearl · 02/09/2015 17:49

Reebok, welcome back. Of course I remember you (from both times). Congratulations on the new pregnancy, but sorry to hear the sickness has kicked in already. Those icy cold things sound good for keeping up hydration levels. I went in for frozen cherries when I was suffering, but I suppose fresh cherry season is over now.
Eallison, that sounds like a monumentally inappropriate demand from your work - even without the HG factor, nobody in the right mind would ask that of someone who is 38 weeks pregnant! You should be offered something alternative to do, rather than being forced to start your mat leave early (although I understand that impulse).

Heavenscent86 · 02/09/2015 19:27

Hi everyone. My nausea and sickness is not too bad at the moment thank you. Hoping that's a sign that my tablets are working and not that there is something wrong with the baby. Suffering evil constipation though. Of course my daughter doesn't understand and so when I'm in the bathroom she's stood outside the door saying mummy HOW much longer are you going to be? And there's me saying um not too much longer darling. Haha what fun .... NOT!! Although really I am grateful to have a little break from vomiting.

eallison88 · 02/09/2015 19:29

Hubby and I had a long discussion and I'm gonna start mat leave after this Friday. Emotionally it's stressing me out, I've been on the brink of tears all day. Financially it makes no difference really. Since making the decision I've relaxed, I'm not about to cry anymore. So I think it's the right one.

Reebok welcome. Hope things stay manageable and you cope as best you can. We're here if you need us!

Heavenscent86 · 02/09/2015 19:31

Eallison I'm glad you have made a decision and don't feel so stressed anymore. It must be the right decision for you in that case.

Meerka · 02/09/2015 19:52

ealli Im really glad you won't be going on those trips next week. Insane to even ask you :/

Welcome Reebok and wishing you all the best. Have you considered starting cyclizine + B6 now? there's some evidence that beginning meds early, right at the stage you're at now, can prevent the descent into the worse of the HG.

wishing everyone a gentle night.
