I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

winkywinkybumbum · 25/08/2015 22:12

I was on avomin but have given up on those as they made me feel rubbish.

I am drinking lemonade and urinating. Just feel so weak and doing even the slightest things is exhausting.

I hate this :(

Heavenscent86 · 25/08/2015 22:14

I completely understand winky. The hospital put me on ondansetron and cyclizine. The cyclizine are useless and I can't keep the ondansetron down long enough for them to be very effective. Gutted because in the hospital I managed to not be sick and now I'm back at square one again.

Heavenscent86 · 25/08/2015 22:15

It's awful really to be so sick and seemingly nothing will help it. Big hugs for you.

winkywinkybumbum · 25/08/2015 22:20

The thought of putting anything in my mouth other than haribo or lemonade (that is heading for the shit list to be honest) makes me gag and retch. I can't even stomach ice poles.

thisisnow · 26/08/2015 09:24

Hi everyone, hoping I can join this thread for advice! I'm 7 weeks and reallllllly struggling, been throwing up in plastic bags, on the street, also throwing up blood now because I'm guessing there is nothing left to come up.

How can I convince my doctor to give me something to help? Last week they just sent me away with an order to drink lots and I can't even do that as it comes back up.

LucindaE · 26/08/2015 10:21

thisisnow Welcome, sorry you are suffering so much. Do ring the surgery for an emergency appointment, as you are probably dehydrated. Insist that you have been unable to retain liquid for days, and they will have to take you seriously. Can anyone get kesostix for you to measure how dehydrated you are? (available from any chemists). Meanwhile, do try ice cubes, sips of flat coke, or ice cubes made of flat coke, soda water, jelly or the juice of tinned fruit or ice lollies.

Heaven Hugs. You are certainly at the worst stage, things will get better.
Winky What do the surgery say?
Mother Hen leaves, flapping and clucking anxiously...

thisisnow, if your GP is so ignorant and unhelpful, I would suggest (if you're in the UK) either trying to get into an Early Pregnancy Unit, or else simply going to A & E. My own experience, and that of many other women on this thread, is that if you go to A & E, you are likely to be seen by a consultant who has experience in treating HG, and who will know the right meds to prescribe. If you have to resort to the GP again, try to take a copy of the NICE guidelines for treatment with you (the link to their website is in Lucinda's OP at the top of the page - just click and print it off). You will see that there is a long list of different meds that can be tried. Different things seem to work for different people. You should absolutely not have to go through this untreated. Is the blood you are vomiting up red or brown? My understanding is that if it is brown (think coffee grounds), then you should immediately take yourself to A & E anyway. So sorry you are suffering so badly.
Winky, how are you today? Heaven, any improvement? You may need your prescription to be adjusted, perhaps?

winkywinkybumbum · 26/08/2015 12:44

I've not called the docs as I've had a good pee today and I'm loath to take an appointment that someone else may need. I was wondering though, when they give you fluids, is it just to rehydrate or do they provide glucose or whatever it is I would need to feel better. I'm think an IV version of diarolyte basically.

MotherofPearl · 26/08/2015 14:15

I guess it varies Winky, but when I was suffering and admitted I had something ridiculous like 10 (is that even possible?) bags of IV fluids, including IV cyclizine, and by the end of that I felt so much better. I think they can also give vitamin top-ups via IV - I'm pretty sure I've heard Mellee mention this. Before I was admitted I felt like death, lay down on the floor of A & E reception not caring what people thought etc, and by the end I felt like a new woman. Admittedly the vomiting returned when I got home (even with oral cyclizine), but I never got quite as bad again.

Freshbreadandfaith · 26/08/2015 14:32

Bad news I'm afraid.
Baby has a huge sack of fluid behind neck and over back of head. Specialist said very high risk for miscarriage and unlikely to survive and may develop into turners syndrome if it does survive. Our hearts are breaking. It's a chromosome random genetic thing
If I am going to miscarry I would rather it happen soon so that I'm not having to go through this agony month after month or having to be faced with impossible decisions to make
Please please pray that God will either heal the baby or that it will naturally go to heaven soon and that we have peace because it's a terrible thing that is hanging over us
Thankyou for your prayers and support xx

MotherofPearl · 26/08/2015 14:58

Oh gosh FreshBread, I'm so terribly sorry to hear that awful, distressing news. I can't imagine how upset and worried you must feel. I really do feel for you, and hope you are getting lots of support and kindness from everyone around you. The uncertainty about the eventual outcome is so hard to bear. Many hugs to you.

winkywinkybumbum · 26/08/2015 15:15

Oh goodness you poor thing. I have no wise words but just wanted to send my love and thoughts to you xxx

Heavenscent86 · 26/08/2015 15:20

I'm so sorry to hear that news. My thoughts are with you and your family xx

BarmeeMarmee · 26/08/2015 15:42

Fresh I'm so sorry. There are no words. Praying it happens as you ask. Sending you very unMumsnetty hugs in the meantime.

LucindaE · 26/08/2015 16:50

Freshbread I am so sorry. How awful for you. I hope it happens as you wish. What a dreadful thing to happen. Sending you gentle cyber pats.
This really is one of those terrible situations when, as others say, there is nothing that you can say that is adequate.
Winky Please don't feel that because you peed you don't need and deserve urgent treatment if you feel so ill.
thisisnow As from me below; do get an urgent GP appointment as you must be dehydrated.

Meerka · 26/08/2015 19:12

freshbread I am so sorry for your news, for you and your partner and the baby. Thinking of you and praying for you.

winkey agreed with mother Hen, please do get an appointment.

thisis, again urgently agree with lucinda and MoP. Please do get treatment. The level of dehydration you must be experiencing is worrying.

Re IV vitamins, it did happen in our hospital (in the Netherlands) as some vitamins are water soluble and not stored in the tissues. It seems a bit random as to why they give them to some people and not others, frankly.

Freshbreadandfaith · 26/08/2015 19:45

Thankyou everyone
Next stage is scan in a couple of weeks to check baby is still alive and then an amnio fluid test

Heavenscent86 · 26/08/2015 20:04

I would definitely recommend seeing doctors winky and thisisnow. I have been in hospital getting rehydration and it is helping slightly. Spent a couple of days in over the weekend with lots of fluids and then went back in today for more fluids. I still don't feel great but I'm a bit better than before.

winkywinkybumbum · 26/08/2015 20:12

I thought I'd be brave and try to eat something today. Bag of doritos and a cuppa soup. Didn't come up but did cause horrendous diarrhoea. I think I give up.

Heavenscent86 · 26/08/2015 21:26

Had a sobbing session because I've been in hospital and still threw up tonight. Hoping for a good day tomorrow.

winkywinkybumbum · 26/08/2015 21:38

Hugs to you Heaven.

thisisnow · 26/08/2015 22:33

Thanks everyone, the GP has given me some tablets to take if necessary thank god.

Meerka · 27/08/2015 09:28

Hold on heaven, you're having a rough time and it seems endless but you -will- get through. Just take it day by day, even hour by hour if you have to, or 5 mins by 5 mins at its worst.

Hoping everyone has an endurable day.

thisisnow what did your doc give you?

Heavenscent86 · 27/08/2015 10:03

Thanks everyone. I'm doing my best to remind myself that I am feeling better now with the hospitals help and also each day down is a step closer but it's sometimes hard when you're making friends with the toilet for the umpteenth time in a day.

LucindaE · 27/08/2015 10:32

thisisnow I'm so glad you've got tablets, and surely s/he must have tested your urine? What meds have they given you?
winky Please make an emergency appointment, too. I don't want to sound bossy, but you do need treatment. Dehydration is no good for either you or, if it goes on too long, the baby.
Heaven Hugs. Things will get a lot better after the first stage. It's very hard; but if you can get through this, you can get through anything.
Freshbread Thinking of you.
I hope everyone is coping. Waves to Meerka.
