I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

oh my gosh they sound so rude barmee - I sometimes think people at these places have lost anything close to empathy. I don't know the answer, either way you look at it it will be awkward. Can you take some time off in order to get to the appointment? Assume that will be tricky or you would have done that. If you're worried about missing work, arguably if you get better meds on board you will be in a much better frame of mind to be productive going forward so it makes sense to take some time off to get yourself better. Sorry wish I had something more helpful to say

MotherofPearl · 20/07/2015 15:44

Reebok, so sorry about miscarriage. Sending hugs to you.
Mirabal, that's good news about the ondansetron. I never took it when I was suffering (although in retrospect I wish I'd pushed for it), but I know many women on the thread combine it with lactulose for the constipation. One sufferer on here who was taking ondansetron resorted to a home enema! Obviously unpleasant but helpful in a prolonged case I guess. Kit can be ordered from Boots online. But let's hope it doesn't come to that!
Barmee, that's so frustrating about the receptionist at your surgery. They can be so unhelpful. As Mirabal suggests, is there any chance you can leave work early? It is for a medical appt after all. Hope you manage to talk to your GP somehow.

MotherofPearl · 20/07/2015 15:46

Barmee, could you take doctor's call in loos of train, so you have some privacy? Not ideal I realise.

Mrsm14 · 20/07/2015 17:03

reebok so sorry for your loss and hope you have lots of support to help you through. It's such a shitty thing to go through x

Mrsm14 · 20/07/2015 17:12

Elizabeth and lilac thanks for scan reassurance and lilac also for bra help! I went to m&s for some unwired bras and it was rubbish but John lewis was amazing. They have these really nice crop top bra things for £15 in black or nude, if anyone else is looking!

I went back to work on a half day today and it was so nice to be back, although does feel a bit awkward as most people still don't know I'm pregnant. I'm nearly 11 weeks and had a scan last week but still don't feel safe - maybe after the dating scan, whenever that is. Booking appointment tomorrow with midwife at 11 weeks which seems pretty late to me!

LilacWine7 · 20/07/2015 17:19

Reebok I'm so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you Flowers

Barmee it's awful your GP practice is so unhelpful! Hopefully they will be running late with telephone appointments so you might get home before they call. Whenever I have a phone appointment they always ring at least 45mins late! Or maybe go in the train loo to take the call? It's very unprofessional of receptionist to ask you the reason for the appointment! I'd be tempted to just tell receptionist it's urgent and confidential. I find if I call at 8am when they open I can usually get an appointment before noon and they never ask what it's for if I say I need it the same day. Good luck!

Mirabel glad you're having some improvement with Ondansetron.

LilacWine7 · 20/07/2015 17:22

MrsM glad you found some comfortable bras! Hope things go ok at work. At least it's not long to wait until dating scan (usually around 12weeks). I had my booking appointment at 11 weeks and she booked the scan for the week after, I think it has to be before 14weeks if you're having the nuchal test.

eallison88 · 20/07/2015 17:23

reebok I'm so sorry, please look after yourself and be kind. Hopefully the sickness will go away sooner rather than later.

re constipation and ondansetron: I managed without resorting to anything most of the time. I used lactulose a couple of times - but oddly enough, when I was eating much more normally and reducing the dosage of ondansetron. When I was on my highest dose of ondansetron I was surviving mainly on tinned peaches, bottled water, the odd scotch pancake and chip shop chips a few times a week - I was eating 3 or 4 tins of peaches a day. I think it was the peaches that kept me going, as it were. Then, as I reduced ondansetron and started eating more normally, I think the weetabix and strawberries/raspberries every morning did the trick - the times I needed lactulose were when I hadn't had my weetabix and strawberries/raspberries. For me, eating as much fruit (fresh or otherwise!) did the trick. Good luck!

barmee useless and unhelpful GP receptionists and GPs suck. Not what we need when we are at our worst!!! I can't really offer any other suggestions except perhaps maybe look at a different surgery that offers later appointments? I know my GP surgery offers appointments from 7.30am-6.30pm, with some Saturday morning appointments (though they're a little bit like gold dust unless you're lucky!!)

mrsm that does seem a little late for a booking appointment - mine was 9 weeks. I know what you mean about feeling weird being back at work having had time off but not told people you were pregnant - I was the same. I was convinced that people were gossiping about me and going to work it out - as it was, when I finally went back to work at 17 weeks, having had most of the previous 11 weeks off (3 weeks of that was school holiday), most people had no idea I was pregnant, only the people I had told!!

MotherofPearl · 20/07/2015 17:30

Lilac, how are you today? Hopefully a repeat of your vom-free day at the weekend? And Chops, how was your day back at work today?

kayme · 20/07/2015 17:30

Reebok so sorry to hear your news. Must be very hard to go through that.
On a good note I had my scan first today it was really nice to see I'm going through this for a reason. We got 4 photos so could show my kids my 3 year old is not really sure about the whole baby thing. He does not understand how it could be in my tummy.

Mrsm14 · 20/07/2015 17:57

Me again, sorry. Just a bit concerned as I had a bit of brown blood discharge yesterday and just noticed more when I went to the loo. I've seen a heartbeat at 7 and 10 weeks and am now 11 weeks but this has given me a bit of a scare. Has anyone else had brown discharge in early pregnancy?

BarmeeMarmee · 20/07/2015 18:43

Thanks for your concern everyone. Well I'm still waiting for a call and just tried to chase it up to be greeted with the answerphone telling me the surgery is now closed. Hoping the call may still come but somehow I doubt it. I did leave work a bit early but the commute was just too long to physically get back even if I'd left the second I'd put the phone down.

MrsM no helpful advice I'm afraid but hopefully someone else will be along soon

BarmeeMarmee · 20/07/2015 19:03

Well the phone call did come but it was a bit of a waste of time. She wasn't listening. However I do now have an appointment for lunchtime tomorrow.

MotherofPearl · 20/07/2015 19:10

MrsM, I'm no expert but might it be worth contacting an early pregnancy unit, if you have one in your area (apologies if you've already mentioned this). I'd have it checked out just to be on the safe side.
Barmee, sorry you've had such a frustrating day; hope your appt tomorrow is more useful, and good luck for your busy day.

elizabethsmum · 20/07/2015 19:22

reebok I am so very sorry for your loss.

mrsm it is more than likely a little bit of 'old blood' - particularly as you have had the two previous scans that showed all was well. sometimes it can just be a little bit of implantation bleed settling. if you are concerned though I would speak to your midwife about it.

barmee sorry your gp's surgery are being rubbish. if you are suffering badly might have more joy ringing out of hrs surgery to be seen. have you got any ketostix? it sounds like you need something stronger than cyclizine sooner rather than later to me.

mirabal glad you are on better meds. are you able to tolerate any orange flavour drinks/Lollies etc or any grapes or soft fruits?

waves to mop eallison lilac (hope today is a bit better? ) & everyone

Meerka · 20/07/2015 21:23

Reebok so very sorry. Thinking of you and hoping the sickness goes quickly.

Barmee I hope the doc listens tomorrow maybe take the NICE guidelines, Aims Of Trreatment. Can you possibly take an advocate with you.

Kaymee good to hear scan went well.

Sorry connection is crap and hard to read peoples posts. Wishing everyone a nights trouble free sleep

chopsface · 20/07/2015 21:30

Hi all

Reebok I'm so sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself hun x

lilac hope you get some more good days. At least you didn't puke in the bufferfly house ;-)

Mirabel I'm glad you found some drugs that seem to work. Don't rush back to work if you can't cope without them x

mrsm I'm sure the bleeding is old blood if brown. Best to check it out though yes? Hope you're OK x

Work went OK today. I got a few tired spells though, especially in the last bit. From about 3.30 I was pooped. Felt nauseous on the bus home and just wanted to flop down. Had to go food shopping though. Now tucked up in bed feeling tired and nauseous. I'll be alright once asleep :-)

BarmeeMarmee · 21/07/2015 13:30

MrsM how are you today? And Mirabel and Lilac? Everyone else?

MotherofPearl · 21/07/2015 13:58

Yes, how is everyone coping today? And Barmee, how did you get on with your appointment?

LilacWine7 · 21/07/2015 14:18

Kayme glad your scan went well!

Barmee how was your appointment today?

Chops are you feeling any better? Sleeping is my favourite way to escape nausea! Hope work's not too exhausting.
About the butterfly house, I came close to puking at one point, there was a zoo type thing in the middle with meerkats, birds and a big pond of crocodiles... the smell was overpowering! Had to hurry through that bit! I kept looking around for places I could discreetly whip out my sick-bag if needed (dark corner of bat-house looked promising) but managed to make it home in the end Grin

MotherofPearl I'm feeling better today thanks, only 1 vom-session so far! Was sick a few times yesterday eve. Just frustrated at not being able to keep much liquid down, more than a few sips of water and it comes straight back up. Really looking forward to when baby's here and I can drink a full glass of icy water again!

Mrsm14 · 21/07/2015 14:37

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing ok today. I had my booking appointment today and midwife wasn't at all concerned about spotting, phew! It is starting to feel a bit more real now I have this big yellow notes folder!

MotherofPearl · 21/07/2015 14:39

Lilac, your comment about the promising dark corners of the bat-house really made me chuckle! Grin And it's so bizarre about HG and water, isn't it? My nightmare drink when I was suffering was room temp tap water, but in normal life it's pretty much all I drink. My HG drink was ice cold choc nesquik milk, or else ice cold choc soya milk (two things I never ever drink in normal life). Towards the end I got really into lemon barley water, but the proportions had to be just right, and I had to have it with lots of ice. It was all very exacting!

MotherofPearl · 21/07/2015 14:40

Cross-posted. MrsM, glad to hear you're OK.

elizabethsmum · 21/07/2015 16:28

Hope everyone is surviving today? to second mother of pearl all I could drink was choc nesquik (ice cold), elderflower presse and mcd choc milkshake. normally I can't stand milk!

Lol at your story of looking for discrete puking corners at zoo lilac you did well to make it how with all the strong animal smells you must have encountered!

Laura7010 · 21/07/2015 16:36

Hi all, hope lots of you are having vomit free days?
I just wanted to check in and say my pills are still working and I'm managing to mostly function normally. Also it's now the summer holidays and I've never been so relieved to have a rest!!
I'm sorry for your loss reebok
Glad the midwife wasn't concerned with your 'show' mrsm and my scan was quite late and rushed through but still all fine.
Sending vomit free thoughts to all xx
