I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Glad to hear you remember me Lucinda and Barmee!
Mop, that's great about ttc again! Fingers crossed for you!

Barmee how far along are you?

Confused, I'm shocked about how your work place are treating you. With my first pregnancy, I was signed off work for over 2 months...I ended up being forced back to work at 15 weeks as my pay would have been cut however, initially they were supportive! Hope you fight them all the way!

kayme · 16/07/2015 17:28

Hi all I'm back from hospital came home to look after my eldest son. It was a bit embarrassing at the hospital I had to go with my son to the room where they give the anesthetic. I have done this before and was fine. I just about made it through to him falling asleep and had to run out of the room. I almost passed out and I had to lie on a bed. I managed not to be sick but couldn't even give him a kiss bye. His opp went well but he was really upset and restless when he woke up. I felt alful and useless, luckily my husband came in and took over from me.
For those with SPD I was told in my area you can now self refer to the physio, so you don't have to wait to be referred by the doctor.

LucindaE · 16/07/2015 17:29

LilacWine My goodness, I think that counts as 54 vomits, I believe; that's awful.
Definitely a good idea to go back on the cyclizine. However did you manage to rehydrate yourself? (if there is such a word).

BarmeeMarmeeVery brave, even sniffing the curry...
Kayme Oh dear, I forgot to mention your LO's operation, sorry. I do hope he gets better quickly, and hope they DON'T give him crisps as they did a friend of mine (on the grounds that it mended the throat quickly).
Mrsm14 That's bad about sick pay. Still really happy for you about all being OK at scan.
Waves to MotherofPearlelizabethsmum Meerka and everyone.
I have to go down to Buckinghamshire and stay down for until 29 July, not on a pleasure trip but on family business, but I know that MotherofPearl elizabethsmum and Meerka will be doing a great job. Look after yourselves.

Ah Lucinda you'll be in my neck of the woods then - a beautiful part of the country if I do say so myself!

Reebok only 6 weeks so a long way to go yet.

I would rather not have to go and sit and pretend I'm fine about eating the curry but it's one of my oldest dearest friends whose baby is due in a couple of weeks and she's having a bit of a rough time of it so I can't possibly cancel. Wish me luck!

Penguinandminipenguin · 16/07/2015 19:25

Just checking in to say hello, sorry I've not been on in a while!
I've just had a skim through of the thread, I hope everyone is ok Flowers
Confused Your work situation sounds awful, have you considered posting on legal for more advice? Although you do sound pretty clued up :)

Reebok · 16/07/2015 20:07

barmee same as me...I am honestly doubting that I will carry to term though and will miscarry again. My early scan doesn't look good. ???? It's horrible though because I still feel sick/am sick...experienced the same with my first pregnancy which I miscarried.
Good luck with the curry! Bless you for being such a good friend!
Enjoy your time away Lucinda

Reebok · 16/07/2015 22:17

Feeling so upset. Been feeling sick all evening and had a build up of mucus in throat (sorry tmi) which made me feel worse...ended up vomiting so hard that I peed myself a little. Was so upset from the incident that I started crying like a baby. Don't know what's happening to me!

BarmeeMarmee · 16/07/2015 22:39

Oh Reebok poor you. What a horrible situation to be in. Not surprised you cried-anyone would in your position. Sending you hugs.

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2015 06:48

Reebok, never tmi on here. So sorry to hear that you're feeling so low. It is so tough. Hope today is a better day for you.
Barmee, how did you get on with your curry evening out?

BarmeeMarmee · 17/07/2015 08:04

I survived thanks MoP. Although just the smells turned my stomach. Ah well, could have been a lot worse. Feeling a bit of a fraud actually as I don't think it could be said I have HG at the moment. I just keep expecting it to hit at any moment. Silly really.

Skiptonlass · 17/07/2015 09:26

reebok :( it's awful isn't it? The first time I peed myself a little after a mammoth puking/coughing session I just stood in the bathroom and cried. That was a low point...my poor pelvic floor

My dh wandered in and gave me a big hug and cheered me up. He has been a rock through all of this. It's brought us even closer.

eallison88 · 17/07/2015 10:27

reebok it's so hard but you are doing so well to get thru each day. You have read me say before that there's nothing quite so bonding as vomit peeing on your husband/partner. As horrid as the last 6 months have been for us, we've been closer. I've realised what a rock he is in a way that I couldn't have done without the truly shit moments that come with HG. Almost all of us here have vomit peed at least once, it's almost like a badge of honour!

MissMartin10 · 17/07/2015 11:07

If its any consolation reebok .. it happens to me quite alot Blush Don't worry about it. . it probably happens to everyone at some point x

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2015 11:46

Barmee, not silly or fraudulent at all. Having been through it before you know what it's like, so it's understandable that you're bracing yourself. Hopefully you'll escape HG this time, but if not then at least you're prepared, and as you know, you'll get lots of support on here. :-)

LilacWine7 · 17/07/2015 16:51

Having a better day, only 3 vom-sessions so far and more gaps in nausea Smile
I've started taking Prochlorperazine (Stemetil) again which seems to be helping. I have a stash leftover from trying it in first trimester, it didn't do much then but seems to be easing the nausea this time. Does anyone know if you can also take Promethazine (Phenergan) at same time as Prochlorperazine and Metoclopramide? I think my obstetrician said they could all be used in combination but can't remember and I have lots of Promethazine leftover too. Can't get any more Cyclizine until GP appointment next week so trying to find other ways to take edge off.

Quick question... is it normal to leak colostrum/milk all the time at 31weeks? It's not that much, just enough to stick nipples to bra! I looked at breast-pads in Tesco but they have about 12 different types! Any recommendations? I'm wearing sports bras, don't want to buy nursing-bras yet in case they're too small by time baby's born. Will the pads stay in place in a sports bra or do they need special pockets?

Lucinda hope you have a nice trip to Buckinghamshire. Yes I managed to rehydrate (to some extent) with ice-lollies, yogurt and tiny sips of icy water.

Reebok sorry you're feeling so ill and down. Try not to be upset about peeing, I believe it's very common in pregnancy even in women who don't have HG. Something to do with hormones relaxing the muscles that affect bladder control.

Barmee glad you survived the curry night!

PumpingRSI · 17/07/2015 18:10

Hi all, wondering if I can ask some advice from you long suffering ladies. In my first pregnancy I wouldn't say I had Hg, but I had morning sickness and such severe nausea that it put me off eating and drinking to the point of being pretty dehydrated and poorly. I left it too long to get tablets but cyclizine sorted me out in the end.

This time I'm suffering earlier on but got cyclizine and hoped it would do same. I'm now on max dose but still getting really bad nausea and retching all evening. it also makes me V drowsy and dizzy. My question is, is it worth swapping to a riskier drug if this is largely stopping sickness, even if I'm still feeling pretty rough at times? Will the doc think I'm silly for complaining about nausea.

I'm also concerned that at 7 weeks it's still got a few weeks to get to its worst like I was before.

Sorry if this seems insensitive given all of you poor ladies and how you're struggling. I remember how I felt last time and it was hellish.

Mrsm14 · 17/07/2015 18:25

Hi pumping - cyclizine didn't do anything for me so I am taking stemetil and I think it's made quite a difference. Metoclopramide is also good but you're only supposed to take it for 5 days and it didn't agree with me overall. I am now able to keep down liquids and most food, take better care of myself and leave the house so for me it was totally worth any risk, compared to the alternative. saying that, I am pretty confident none if the things I have taken have been risky to be honest - my GP and the doctor I saw in hospital were both completely happy to prescribe. Hope that helps. I think the nausea is pretty much as bad as actually puking and am very glad of the relief! Oh and stemetil isn't drowsy either.

PumpingRSI · 17/07/2015 18:29

Thank you. Another doc friend has recommended Ondanestron but I feel silly going back to doc to complain about nausea when Cyclizine is in fact stopping the vomming. Yes the nausea is a constant whether I vom or not!

Mrsm14 · 17/07/2015 18:35

lilac I'm pretty sure my doctor said I could take phenergen with either metoclopramide or stemetil but I don't know why I'm afraid!

Can I ask you all a scan question please? We were told at 10 week scan that they don't let you hear the heartbeat until 15 weeks because they use stronger equipment or something - is that right?! Do any of you have things to listen at home and if so, when did you start using and would you recommend? Thanks all!

Reebok · 17/07/2015 18:35

Thank you for your support ladies. Think I may be miscarrying again though. Starting to bleed. Still only a little but it's red. No pain yet. My last miscarriage before my daughter I had no bleeding or pain. So I have no idea what to expect and I'm so scared.

Mrsm14 · 17/07/2015 18:39

Oh and sorry - also an underwear question! First timer and clueless. In 11th week now and bras are getting uncomfortable. Do you just get remeasured and buy a normal bra and what is the difference between that and maternity bras?! I have no idea how much I will grow or what to buy and still feeling too sick to face town and measuring if I'm honest.

Mrsm14 · 17/07/2015 18:42

reebok call your epu and see if they will see you. I have been through miscarriage and I know how awful and scary it is when you don't know what's going on Flowers and I'm thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for you

Reebok · 17/07/2015 19:17

It's closed at the moment. I'm already a patient with the epu...have a scan booked for less than 2 weeks but going to call on Monday to get an emergency scan. A&he are useless as won't scan me so all I can do is wait and see. Resting at moment. Still very minimal bleeding.

BarmeeMarmee · 17/07/2015 19:21

Reebok sorry you're going through that. So scary for you.

Mirabal · 17/07/2015 19:37

oh gosh Reebok that sounds scary, sounds like a good idea to call your EPU and get their advice Flowers.

I am currently (well before today) on both stementil and phernagan (promethazene) so I know that combo is definitely ok. Finally got hold of some ondansetron today by seeing a consultant at an EPU in the next borough. It wasn't even a battle. Having said that I have taken one and not feeling that different so not sure it will work for me - but trying not to judge it too soon. The consultant said to maybe stop taking the other things to see if this works but I'm a bit reluctant. I would LOVE to not have to take phernargan especially as I'm a zombie but I have come to rely on it to stop the incessant puking. What do you laides think?

Peeing while puking - someone on here (really sorry forgot who) said about a trick whereby you sort of press your heel into your crotch while puking and I think that is really working for me! Try it......it's easier than it sounds!

re colostrum - I definitely remember being to get some out at about 35 weeks but think that was when I pressed a bit rather than on its own accord if you get me?
