I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thank you, it's just it happens every time and this morning id say it was 50% blood :( I've called my surgery for a gp to call me back.

LucindaE · 14/07/2015 08:48

Laura Very likely as it was with bile and fresh it was only from the throat, but so much blood is probably a good idea to have checked, though it probably is from all the retching, best to play safe, and I'm glad you're doing that. I know that brown is a medical emegency; thank goodness, we've only had one person on here who had that, Melageatrois on the first thread. Congratulations on scan.
Lilac Sorry about nasty recurrence, and I do hope Mrsm14 has the reassurance of a hormonal surge, unpleasant though it is.
RubyReins I wonder if you were admitted last night? How are things if you are in contact?
elizabethsmum Thanks for the information on scans. Your 'bedside' manner sounds so nice, in complete contrast to Amy's experience. Thank goodness that Kalidasa, who suffered so horribly, didn't have twin girls, then...She suffered enough with singleton boys...Waves to everyone.
Kayme How are things this morning? eallison How are things now?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Thanks lucinda I've spoken to the doctor now and he wasn't concerned so I will calm down! He's changed my medication from the type you dissolve between your gum to ones you swallow, now that I'm keeping things down. Which is good as my gums were beginning to hurt! He's also given me gaviscon. I'm lucky to have a helpful GP surgery!

RubyReins · 14/07/2015 09:13

Morning all. No not admitted to A + E. Have an emergency appointment in 20 mins at surgery. Breakfast (yoghurt with porridge oats) and two glasses of water have just reappeared... Feeling dreadful, terrible headache and back ache now which I am worried is pain in the kidney area and fully expect to end up in hospital today to get much needed fluids. Will revert!

RubyReins · 14/07/2015 09:51

Got drugs

MotherofPearl · 14/07/2015 11:35

Ruby, what have you been prescribed? In a way it's a pity you've not been admitted as even a few hours on IV fluids and IV meds makes such a huge difference to how you feel. Really hope the meds you've been given make a big difference for you.

LucindaE · 14/07/2015 11:43

Laura Good news, anyway, glad about change of meds, I hope the new ones help.
RubyReins Like MotherofPearl, I'm surprised you weren't admitted,as you sound as if you are in a fine state; of course, he must have tested your urine, but still...I''m glad he's put you on meds; which ones?

OP posts:
RubyReins · 14/07/2015 12:31

I am on cyclizine 50 mg. She couldn't test my urine as I was incapable of producing any... Have been back round with a sample now so waiting to hear back on that score. Been sick since taking the first tablet but hopefully it will settle now. Should be at my desk as I have so much work to do but lounging on the sofa watching insufferably shite telly.

MissMartin10 · 14/07/2015 13:10

right well after posting on here how sick i was 3 weeks ago! doctor has now finally said ive got the dreaded hyperemesis gravidarum. . which i suspected all along but im not dehydrated and have opted for no tablets as i never ever take tablets lol just going to stay in bed! Hope your all feeling okay.. Smile xx

LucindaE · 14/07/2015 13:19

RubyReins I'm a bit startled she didn't take your not being even able to produce a sample more seriously; though not medically qualified, I would have expected her to do that. Sorry to go on and on about this, but can you possibly get those magic sticks somehow from any chemists to do it yourself? I hope the meds work, but if you go on being sick, you need to know how bad the deydration is getting.
MrsMartin Poor old you, an official welcome to The Thread That Nobody Wants to Need. It's very brave of you to want to do without meds, but you do need to check for dehydration with the kesostix I'm always boring on about if you are being sick a lot. How are the liquids, and especially unhealthy stuff like ice lollies, flat coke, the juice of tinned fruit and jelly staying down? I liked flat coke frozen into cubes. Some swear by soda water.

MissMartin10 · 14/07/2015 13:29

Lucinda can i buy then sticks online? i had a urine check on friday off the midwife and she said everything was fine.. i love icepops Grin i can eat them all day.. also cranberry juice stays down pretty well i do better with food than i do with liquids! im more likley to be sick off water than anything Hmm ..

RubyReins · 14/07/2015 13:46

I am not surprised at all! The only good thing about my surgery is that it's one minute away. I said earlier that the doctors are lovely but that must have been the dehydration induced delirium. It is a busy inner city surgery which goes some way to explaining their hurried and seemingly uninterested approach. I will call them soon. Still throwing up. Pharmacy didn't have those sticks when I went to collect my prescription. The pharmacist asked if it was for a diet. Eh?! Will send DH out for some later when he goes to get DS. He is scrubbing the bathroom right now whilst I watch Twilight films... Blush

BarmeeMarmee · 14/07/2015 13:53

Hello all. Sorry you're suffering so much Laura and Ruby. MissMartin please do look after yourself. Hope everyone else is doing ok today.

I'm feeling generally queasy and permanently light headed and not much like eating at the moment although I am making myself. Still paranoid something is wrong though. I don't know, never happy!

RubyReins · 14/07/2015 14:50

Still being sick so have another appointment with GP at 4.40. She said medication should kick in quickly. Fully expect to be in hospital this evening.

eallison88 · 14/07/2015 15:26

Ruby I found a Netflix free trial a life saver in the first few weeks of the sickness -especially the fact that it will automatically roll onto the next episode for 3 episodes, and even then you just have to click play again. I know not advice for managing the sickness, but it really helped me with hours in bed/on the sofa not being able to move!

LucindaE · 14/07/2015 16:03

RubyReins You poor thing, I do hope you feel better once you're admitted. A lot of the women on the thread say cyclizine takes some days to affect you, so it's good the gp is acting quickly.
MissMartin You can get them online, yes, and at any chemists.
BarmeeMarmee Poor you too; one is in a quandry with this; good days are alarming if they happen early, and Mrsm14 is in the position of having had her nausea go off completely for some days, too.
eallison That's a great idea about films.

No ketones present much to the doctor's amazement so no admission for now. She has given me different tablets and told me to sip sports drinks. She thinks I was throwing uo the tablets so has given me those melty ones. She was genuinely astonished and was ready to make a call to the hospital. She told me to call back tomorrow morning if I am still sick and then I will be sent to hospital for fluids. I did ask her if the drugs will make me feel better but she was a bit non-commital! I suppose being able to keep fluids down will result in me feeling more well. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the good wishes and hope you are all faring well.

Laura7010 · 14/07/2015 17:13

ruby I take those tablets and they really help me a lot. So hopefully they will help you too. If not the best thing will be hospital, hopefully you'll be feeling a little better in the morning. I take two around 5am (!) when my stupid body clock wakes me up, so they have kicked in by the time I get up. Doesn't always work mind you. Then I take another two around 3.30 after I've finished work. They are a bit hampering conversation wise! I've actually had my meds changed today to ones you swallow as I've been keeping things down, let's hope this continues!!

chopsface · 14/07/2015 17:32

I hope you feel better soon ruby x x

BarmeeMarmee · 14/07/2015 17:41

Ruby that's good news re ketones, if a bit surprising! Good that your GP is taking it seriously too. Fingers crossed the new meds will do the trick.

eallison88 · 14/07/2015 17:45

ruby I don't want to cause any stress, but ketones aren't always reliable for indicating dehydration or otherwise - they certainly aren't for me. So keep am eye out for those other signs (skin, headaches etc etc). I'm really glad she's acted fast in trying new meds tho, that's a good sign. Fingers crossed these help and you're able to start feeling better.

RubyReins · 14/07/2015 18:37

Yeah I am still a bit worried eallison88.To be honest I feel desiccated. Skin has gone to buggery and I have a dreadful headache. I can't wear contacts as my eyes are so dry. I have a revolting sports drink to aid hydration. Tastes like hate.

kayme · 14/07/2015 19:12

RubyReins why don't you just head straight to A and E now? I know it's a hassle and you don't want to waste anyones time but in my experience even if the doctor sends you in you have to sit in the main waiting area until you can be addmitted. The sooner you can get on proper meds and a drip it really helps. If you went in tonight and had a drip overnight I'm sure you will feel a bit better. I had the best marmalade on toast in the morning after my first admission It was so good to be able to eat.Just getting on top of things can really help put you back on track. Really hope whatever you do you feel a bit better soon.x

Skiptonlass · 14/07/2015 19:15

I've just had a bit of a revelation...

It occurred to me that maybe the horrible, horrible pain I have in my stomach could be too much acid (I'm hoping not an ulcer, although I've had one before and recognise the feeling.)

Does anyone else have that horrible acidic feeling as well? Like it's just about to spill up through your throat? I dug out the ranitidine on Monday and took it... And lo, a definite improvement in the nausea. Not gone, by any means, but noticeably better.

I'm wondering how much of a horrible sick/nausea/acid/tissue damage cycle has been going on... Within 24 hours the wheezy feeling and lump in the throat had gone too. So I'm thinking the sheer amount of spewing has made my throat raw, made me wheezy, etc.

Will definitely mention this to the doc when I see them... I know you shouldn't self medicate but I've been on ranitidine before, I know I have no issues with it etc. and I'm desparate. :(

ruby I only had +1 ketones in my urine, even when said urine was like molasses.

kayme · 14/07/2015 19:19

Hello I don't want to worry anyone but picked up my perscription cyclazine from the chemist today. They said to me that did I know that it was absorbed by the baby and increased the risk of cleft palate. I was under the impression that it was the safest tablet to take. This is my 3rd pregnancy taking it and no one had ever mentioned it before. Has anyone else been told that?
