Hi all! I'm 5 weeks on Friday and have booked myself in for a 6 week scan the following Friday as Weve tried for years and really need reassurance that all will be fine! I just wanted to know as I'll JUST be 6 weeks on scan date whether anyone has been to an early scan and not heard a heartbeat simply down to how early things are? Have you returned at a later date and all been well? Any comments greatly appreciated !
Many thanks, Jo x

Yes, it's entirely possibly you won't see a hb at just 6 weeks and it is awful having to 'wait and see'. Do you think you could bear to wait another week or so before the scan?

hazellnut56 · 29/06/2015 22:27

yeah perhaps I should maybe I'll just worry more if I go too early And there's nothing there !? I just don't know how I'm going to think of anything else for the next 3.5 weeks! Just such a worry :(

Yes I had a scan at what I thought was 6 weeks but it was 5 weeks +4 days and the lady said words like 'no viable heart beat yet'. Bit Worrying, waited two weeks and went back to be told all looked well.

It was a nervous two weeks but I had no symptoms to show I may be miscarrying which helped.

I'm now 40 weeks & 5 days waiting not so patiently for baby to arrive!

Congratulations !!!! Not long now for you hopefully! Ok I think I'll hold on the appointment for another two weeks I'm just so impatient and such a worrier! Gahhh!!!!

Hi, I would recommend a scan at 7 weeks. I saw a heartbeat then with my last pregnancy. If you get scanned too early, you may worry unnecessarily, as a hb isn't always detected at 6 weeks, especially if your dates are a bit out. Wishing you the best of luck for a healthy and happy pregnancy.

I booked an early scan last year as I had fallen pregnant after a previous miscarriage. We saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks and 5 days. Our daughter is now three months old Smile

Aww thanks all! Spoken to hubby about it and we think we're gonna wait till 8 weeks (hard as that will be!)! Will midwives listen for the heartbeat at your 8week check? (I know it's not as flash as the scan) ! Hehe!

Nope. The mw won't listen till at least. 14 weeks.

bsmirched · 30/06/2015 06:34

Midwives round here won't listen for a heartbeat til about 16 weeks.

eurochick · 30/06/2015 06:38

Midwives won't listen for a heartbeat until at least 16 weeks, often later.

Waiting until 8 weeks for your scan is a good idea. At just 6 weeks you are right on the cusp of being able to see a heartbeat and if you can't, it will be an awful wait (I know, I have been there).

Ahh ok so I'll rebook for 8 weeks then :) sounds like a plan !! :) thanks all xx
