Delaying Induction and being monitored instead

I am 40+10 with baby 3 and they want me to be induced in 2 days time due to being overdue. Baby and i are fine, movements good, growth scan fine and no complications.

I have had 2 sweeps, am 2cm dilated and cervix 'favourable'. Have had period like pains for a couple of days but very mild.

I have decided to be monitored for a couple of days to see if I go into labour naturally. baby active and moving well.

Baby 1 was induction (pessary and drip) as waters leaked at 40+10. The drip was so painful, epidural didn't work well though DD1 was delivered naturally after 12 hour labour and was never in any distress. The drip was really really horrible, I had a pph (haemmorrage) snd threw up due to the drug.

Baby 2 was natural labour at 40+8 after a sweep and 4 hour labour, so easy!

I am so afraid of having the drip again as was so horrible - what would you do in my place? Delay the induction for a bit as long as baby and I fine?

I would be asking for expectant management, so daily monitoring and checks.

Sometimes people need reminding a 'normal' pregnancy can go to 42 weeks. Watching the placenta is important, as you know, but if you are having scans and regular checks then this could be picked up.

Maybe your babies just like to bake a little longer!

Yep - had baby this morning at 40+12. 3 hour labour homebirth but v intense and painful. Glad it's over and I don't need to be induced!

All of my pregnancies were longer. I decline induction by baby 3 and 4. Baby 3 was 21 days overdue, monitoring all saying she was fine so I carried on and went into labour naturally. She was fine of course. Baby 4 was 19 days overdue

state - thanks for this. If I have any more children and go overdue again I will definitely be declining induction as long as the baby is monitored and doing fine.

So glad baby came for you. Congratulations. I was always terrified of induction and was so lucky I didn't have to make that decision.
