Fibroid? Due they grow more during pregnancy?

Hi I was told today be my midwife at I have 2 small fibroids I'm 17 weeks and one is abut 4cm and another 3cm . She said there's nothing to worry about as they will be monitored in my scans. My question is due fibroids grow bigger during pregnancy? I never even knew that I had fibroids until today .

My understanding is that they do, but they are clear on scans and they do monitor them. I had quiet a large one that grew as I went on in pregnancy but it was never that that caused issues

I found out I had one at 12 weeks which was 7cm.

At my 20 week scan it was 9cm and a new one has grown which is just 1cm.

No one is worried about them and they've caused me no problems so try not to stress. Later in pregnancy and after birth they can shrink back

Mine did until 20 weeks and then stopped. Had to have it removed a couple of years later.

HI, i had mine measured again today and it is precisely the same size from 7 weeks to 21 weeks.. personal anecdote but hope it gives balance!

I knew I had a fibroid before pregnancy (3cm) and it had doubled in size by 12 weeks. However, it hadn't grown at all between 12 and 20 weeks (currently 24 weeks).
I wouldn't worry about it - did the sonographer/midwife say where the fibroid is? I was told its only a concern if it's blocking the entrance to your cervix, as it could mean you'd need a Caesarian to get baby out. I think that's fairly uncommon though.

I have a 6cm fibroid and it was closely monitored in my second pregnancy. It did not grow whatsoever. The fibroid was discovered in my first pregnancy.

There is some evidence to suggest that vitamin D3 may control the growth of fibroids, so it might be an idea to make the most of the sunshine when you can!

I have several fibroids. when I was pg with my DD they grew and kind of joined together and grew the size of my DDS head. during this growth I ended up with red degeneration which is where the fibroid has out grown its blood supply, that really hurt. really painful could hardly walk for about a week.

during my pg with DS they didn't grow.

I am now pg again and just have to wait and see if they grow again, I hope not.

they can grow or they might not, I did ask my consultant if it had anything to do with the sex of my babies and the difference in hormones but I was told no there is no link.

I have two fibroids. They were discovered at my 12 week scan. One was 5cm and the other 1.5cm, they are in the fundus and so not going to cause a problem during birth.

They have not grown in pregnancy (I am 36 + 5 now) and the smaller one has disappeared (baby likely to have squashed it).

The only thing I have been warned about is potential increased risk of PPH and therefore active management of third stage of labour is highly recommended.

It will depend upon the size and location as to whether a c section is required.

Also check your hospital's criteria for using a MLU as some will send you straight to the labour ward.
