Had appendectomy 8 days ago.
Obv being 22 wks pregnant meant the very best post surgery drugs were off limits.
I had GS then two shot of morphine, then straight onto paracetamol which was ok.
Now 8 days later am able to spend most of the day without paracetamol - which I had been taking every 4-6 hrs as per docs advice.
Not sure how long I am suposed to be allowed to do this for so figured would use it as and when needed - currently 2-4 tablets a day but not taking them means I feel worse.
Can do sod all and feel like I am taking 1 step fwd and 2 back, my mum is here being superwoman which is so appreciated, but I feel dreadful.
OMg this has turned into a pity thread.

You poor, brave thing. I don't know the answer but i really feel for you!

I know that paracetamol is safe in pregnancy. I'm not sure how long for though, but if I were you, I would be taking them as stated as the recommended dose. Then make a quick call to your GP. He will be able to tell you if it is safe on a long term basis. I would think it is, after all. New born babies can now have calpol which is only paracetamol, so i can't see that it could do them anyharm whilst in the womb, especially once the placenta has done it's job. Only a medical professional is really going to give you the correct answer.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi

You will be fine with paracetamol, I have to take strong co codamol (codeine paracetamol) most days, midwife gp and consultant all say better to take it than not it cant do any harm until last trimester, and that is only cos the baby can get addicted to the codeine, however in last pg I had to take it then as well, there is nothing to worry about at all with normal paracetamol

Hi,

I've just been to the docs today to sort out what painkillers I can take. He has advised me to take co-codamol every 4-6 hours - he says this (and paracetemol on its own) is fine for me to take during pregnancy. It's ibuprofen that is not ok.

HTH,
Ali

poor u piffle, what a rotten experience. just to concur, everything i've read says paracetomol is fine

hope you feel much better soon

went to GP to get checked over, he says I was insane to come off painkillers withing 2 weks of surgery and that not taking them will hamper my recuperation.
That's me told then..
They told me codeine only ok for 3rd trimaester though?

My mother had an emergency appendectomy when pregnant with me, don't know at what point. I seem to have turned out ok (husband might disagree as have just been very snappy about the fact that we've/he's lost the camera battery recharger and hence we have no camera for birth etc. And no, am not mollified by him saying he can use the camcorder instead).

Great piffel, glad you went to the GP. Pregnancy is tough enough with out being in un-necessary pain.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and wishing you a speedy recovery from your op.
