Pram and future children ponderings

DH asked me a fair question earlier so I told him I'll put it to MN: We are 20weeks due with first child. Attempting to look at prams/carseats/travel systems/re-mortgaging (!)
However if and when DC2 comes along (being optimist but we would like a 2nd within 2years) then what it the most sensible option for pushing then 2 children under 2 or 3 around?

Im trying not to sound stingy but we're not made of money -are we really then to buy a whole new double pushchair? Or keep the one we'll be buying soon and buy a single pushchair for the older child. But that's providing i always go out with someone else to push the other buggy...

I feel i've talked myself into a corner and the answer is to stop stressing about the future but pregnancy has taken all rational away so please just humour my musings Smile

Uppababy Vista 2015 version. You can add on another carrycot or toddler seat. It's amazing; not cheap, but v versatile.

Nyborg · 21/06/2015 20:44

Have a look at the 2015 Uppababy Vista. It looks like it manages the 1 child to 2 children transition really well.

twinsandapenguin · 21/06/2015 20:45

Icandy and Joolz do a pram where you can attach a second seat at a later date.
DH and I did think about this but thought we might jinx things by over planning. Plus we agonised over the pram choice. Ended up with a cameleon which has been absolutely fantastic. Now expecting DC 2 in feb when DD will be 20 months!

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/06/2015 20:45

I wish I'd bought one that converts into a double as I'm going to have to buy another one soon! DS loves sleeping in the pushchair in the day though, so I might keep it as an overpriced bed...
There are ones such as Phil and Ted's that are a single and you can get a double kit later. It never crossed my mind when pregnant with my 1st though

fredandme123 · 21/06/2015 20:47

Will second the uppababy vista 2015 model. We went for older version and baby due before the new one was available and have no intention of having another one while this one is in there. Saw someone out with it recently and it looks great for two kids and is single width!

catellington · 21/06/2015 20:50

Baby jogger city select

We got one secondhand including the second seat for £350, in great condition.

Nyborg · 21/06/2015 20:50

I'm nowhere near having a second. But I love our 2014 Vista and I, gutted it doesn't have the same features as the 2015.

purplemurple1 · 21/06/2015 20:56

We brought a graco mirage travel system with our first and then got a mountain buggy double with one carry cot when dc 2 came along. We also have a single which we leave in nursery. We've spent less than £300 in total.
I don't think there is any reason to buy new once you have a new car seat.

sophiaslullaby · 21/06/2015 20:59

Aww, thank you for all your response s, thats great to know such a thing exists. twinsandapenguin -i too don't want to jinx anything but the cost of all this equipment is making put my supersitions aside and try and think pragmatically. You have the perfect age gap id like too -i'll put up with the hard work if it means giving my child a sibling like i have.

So off to look at Uppababy Vista's, thanks! Flowers

I wish i'd bought a Phil and Teds with ds. We got a Quinny which has been great but now number 2's coming we're going to get a Phil and Teds anyway. We should've planned ahead!

thehomesecretary · 21/06/2015 21:58

Just bought a phil and teds navigator for a similar reason but in reverse. We are expecting baby no. 3 but it will be our last baby so we wanted something that would work while our middle child still needs pushing around, but would also turn back into a single. We have had phil and teds buggies in the past (and quite a few other doubles) and have found the phil and teds the most durable and user friendly!

WiIdfire · 21/06/2015 21:59

Agree Uppababy vista but make sure you get the 2015 version not the 2014 as they are different.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 21/06/2015 22:00

I have a one year old and a two year old with a 13 month gap. Love our bugaboo donkey.

fhdl34 · 21/06/2015 22:08

We got the britax b dual and the second seat when I was pregnant with DD for this exact reason. DS came along when DD was 23 months, she is now 3.5 years and uses the second seat as a buggy board. It is trashed lol

OhEmGeee · 21/06/2015 22:57

Phil and Teds.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 21/06/2015 22:59

Definitely the new Vista. I have the old model and we weren't planning another so soon after DD but am now 38 weeks work DC2 and DD is 19 months. I really really wish we had the 2015 vista!

I candy peach can be adapted later to fit two. Pricey new, but I got second hand.

batfish · 22/06/2015 14:00

We had the same thought when pram shopping - we are heading towards our mid 30s so probably won't leave it too long to have a second. So we went for Icandy peach 3 as it can convert into a double if you need it too. Bit gutted as I loved the colours of the Icandy all terrain but you can't convert that one - it is not like us to be sensible but we decided to be on this occasion!

blowinahoolie · 22/06/2015 16:23

Go for a three year age gap and then buying a double buggy won't be an issue....I had three years between my two and the eldest was walking with me with my newborn in the pram. Keeps the costs down.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 22/06/2015 20:04

Age gaps aren't always 100% planned blow! We will have a 19 month age gap. DC2 conceived while I was on the pill and EBF.

twinsandapenguin · 22/06/2015 20:06

OP sounds like a good plan! We were silly to not get something that would convert, but the cameleon should have good resale value if we need that (fingers crossed)
Best of luck :)

brimfullofasha · 22/06/2015 20:19

I also have an old uppababy vista and wish we had the 2015 version. We bought the rumble seat for it but it is terrible. Uncomfortable for DS and unwieldy for me. We're selling it to buy a 2nd hand Phil and teds.

PannaDoll · 22/06/2015 20:20

My two year old travels in our second hand McLaren while my two week old rides in the sling.
