How to get a private room after giving birth

I'm having a planned c-section tomorrow and after last time I'd really like a side room/private room. I only know one person who got one and her DH kicked up a fuss to get it. My DH isn't the type so just wondered how they got allocated and how I go about requesting and getting one?

Turns out the way to get a room is to be admitted as an emergency with unstoppable bleeding Sad

At first they said my DH would have to go home at 3am but they found a side room on a ward staffed by only one midwife who was happy for him to stay to help me out.

Waiting for a scan to see what the cause of the bleeding is. So glad he's been with me all this time in our room. Now I truly appreciate who needs them in the true sense of the word 'need'.

Sorry to hear that OP, hoping you're better soon

in my hospital it was generally large loss of blood or multiple birth.

I had a crash section and was placed in a side room.

Sorry to hear that Dancing Hat. Hope you are on the mend and heading home soon Flowers

Sorry to hear you are in this position, I hope you have had the scan and all is well.

I got one after I had DS. Not sure how tbh, I can only assume that the post-natal ward was full as I didn't request it. It was lovely to have that time with him, just the two of us. I didn't have to pay.

I got one as only got moved from theatre at 11pm so think it was the easiest/least disruptive for others on the ward.

Got bumped out after 24 hours though as it was allocated on a needs based system so poorly mums, post C sections & babies who needed jaundice lamps got 1st dibs.

I did appreciate it for having my first (rather bloody) shower & those first 2 post-catheter wees that you have to do in a bowl privately!

If anyone is from Northumberland or North tyneside, the new cramlington hospital only has private rooms, no wards.

Out and feeling better thank you all Flowers

I guess this is a good example of how what you want and what you need aren't always the same thing. I was so grateful for the room after this horrendous episode. I'm glad it wasn't taken up by healthy people who just wanted a good night's stay like me post section.
